Dogs are not only our pets but our friends as well. We love to spend time with them and share happy moments with our canine friends. Dogs come in many different breeds that determine their behavior and the way they interact with other dogs and humans.
You should know what dog breed is best for you before you adopt a canine
Everyone should do their homework before adopting a dog to avoid troubles later on. Otherwise, you won’t know what you’re in for when you adopt a canine which is exactly what happened to Arrow, a Belgian Malinois (or Belgian Shepherd) who was twice surrendered before he finally finds his home.
Belgian Shepherds are active dogs that love physical activity and challenge, but this proved too much for the families that adopted Arrow
Arrow was really unlucky. He was adopted twice and both times he failed to fit into the families that adopted him. As a result, Arrow ended up at the Burlington Country Animal Shelter in New Jersey. It took eight months for him to finally find a home and people who will love him and appreciate his character.
Luckily for Arrow, an animal attendant at the shelter saw his potential
The attendant took the matter into his hands and posted Arrow’s photo and info and Facebook. Soon afterward, he caught the eye of Angela Connor, employed with a rescue group that trains dogs to help disabled veterans.
“I knew that was very unlikely that Arrow would be a fit for a service dog,” she said. “I came in and evaluated Arrow and decided that a lot of the behavior that most people would find challenging was actually exactly the behavior we’re looking for to develop into police work.”
Arrow was trained to become a patrol and drug detection dog and soon proved to be a perfect fit!
A long road was ahead of Arrow but it took only a few months to complete his training! It soon turned out that he was a natural! Arrow now has a partner Officer Kyle Heasley, and they’re both employed with the Lower Southampton Police Department, Pennsylvania, and have a job to patrol and detect the baddies who attempt to smuggle drugs!
“Everybody in the community is very supportive and very happy that we now have a police dog,” officer Heasley said. “The department’s happy, so are all the fellow officers. He’s been a great addition to the department.”
‘He’s just like a family dog when we go home’
Everyone at the department came to love Arrow and he’s quickly become their favorite! It wouldn’t have happened without Angela and her Rescue 22 Foundation, who donated Arrow to the police department and even paid for his training!
“We also would like to thank Tractor Supply in Jamison who are donating Arrow’s food. It is very appreciated. Arrow has completed his basic training and is out on patrol with Officer Kyle Heasley.”
Thanks to Angela and the officers at the police dept, Arrow has a home of his own, a job, and a future to look forward to! Criminals should better watch out! Arrow takes his job very seriously and has worked hard to get it, as evident from the fact he’s the first police dog the Department has had in 40 years.
We hope Arrow will sniff out lots of criminals in the years to come!
