Maddie’s story began at Liberty Animal Shelter, a place filled with animals in dire need of love and care.
Among them was Maddie, a tiny puppy facing severe health challenges.
Covered in fleas, suffering from a skin infection, malnourished, and with a body temperature dangerously below normal, Maddie’s condition was alarming.
It was clear she needed urgent medical attention to survive and thrive.
At the vet, Maddie received the critical care she desperately needed.
The fleas were swiftly dealt with through treatment, and she was put on antibiotics to combat her skin infection.
A dewormer was also administered to address any internal parasites that might be weakening her further.
To help regulate her temperature, Maddie went home with a heating pad, offering her the warmth and comfort necessary for recovery.
In the days that followed, Maddie’s progress was monitored closely.
On the first day, she spent most of her time napping, showing only slight signs of improvement.
By the second day, although still weak, she made efforts to stand and walk, a promising indication of her fighting spirit.
The following week saw gradual but steady improvements in her condition.
Each day, Maddie grew a bit stronger, gaining energy and attempting small feats like trying to climb.
By the eighth day, Maddie’s behavior began to reflect her natural instincts, such as sleeping in a manner that suggested she was seeking her mother’s milk.
This milestone was a heartwarming reminder of her resilience.
On the ninth day, Maddie met a much larger dog, highlighting the significant size difference but also her growing curiosity and bravery.
Maddie’s playful side began to emerge as well.
On the eleventh day, she delighted everyone by pretending to be a flower, a charming display of her blossoming personality.
By the eighteenth day, the transformation from a weak, sickly puppy to an undeniably cute and spirited dog was evident.
She had not only gained strength but also started to exhibit multiple playful personalities by the twenty-first day.
Bonding with other dogs became an important part of Maddie’s development.
On the twenty-third day, she formed a special bond with a Great Dane named Zeus.
Despite the size difference, their friendship grew strong, with Maddie showing a feisty and spirited personality by the twenty-seventh day.
These interactions were crucial for her social development and confidence.
Maddie’s physical development was remarkable as well.
By the thirty-fourth day, her ears had grown significantly, giving her an adorable and distinctive look.
Around this time, she was identified as a weenie dog mix, weighing in at about 5-6 pounds and estimated to be 9-10 weeks old.
Her growth and playful antics continued to delight everyone around her.
As Maddie grew, her first attempts at walking outside were a mix of adventure and comfort-seeking.
On the fortieth day, her initial walk was cut short due to her crying, but she showed her affectionate side by sitting in laps.
Her energy levels soared by the forty-fifth day, when she started giving high-fives, showcasing her playful and intelligent nature.
Her bond with Zeus continued to strengthen through regular playdates, proof of her social and emotional growth.
The culmination of Maddie’s journey came on the fiftieth day when she was officially adopted and renamed Luna.
Now living in Galveston with her new owner, who is training to be a doctor, Luna’s future looks bright and filled with love.
