Emma thought she wouldn’t see Mikko again.
But life has a funny way of working out for the purest of hearts.
She first spotted the mustang in a holding area full of other wild horses. This horse was adopted by a ranch and that was the time Emma decided to help.
She couldn’t touch the horse though.
The poor horse was so scared.
So Emma stood silently to see what the horse would do. That’s when the curious animal began walking towards her. To Emma, that was progress.
She went back the following week full of hope for the horse.
Mikko recognized her!
It became a weekly date between woman and horse and after a few visits, Mikko finally let her touch him!
But then came a day where Mikko was nowhere to be found. Emma asked around and was informed that Mikko had been sold as he was too much work for them.
Then fate stepped in. In Emma’s own words,
“Two years later I saw a friend post about a ranch horse who was listed for sale on Craigslist. My jaw hit the floor when I saw it was Mikko. His ribs showed, his coat was dull and his mane and tail were dreadlocks. When I arrived to take him home he was petrified of everything, but when he saw me his ears perked up and he marched right for me and put his head in my chest.”
That white brand on the neck was a give away too!
Emma drove twelve hours one way to get Mikko not even sure if the horse would remember her. But the moment she walked in, Mikko looks at her, walks over and puts his head right on her chest.
When they got back, Mikko had to expel all that tense energy in him. He ran around a lot and would even shake when touched.
Emma called on lots of traiers for help but Mikko wasn’t having any of it.
He threw them all off with one trainer even suggesting that Emma put Mikko down. She wasn’t happy with that.
The only human he would listen to was Emma. So she took it upon herself to train the handsome mustang.
Mikko worked with Emma everyday for two years, forging a beautiful bond.
Once Mikko trusted her, he let Emma put a saddle on him and with lots of patience, eventually got to mount him.
A friendship was formed and now Mikko gets to explore trails and beaches with Emma. Look at him gallop on that sand!
Mikko never ever leaves her side. Wherever she goes, he follows.
This horse has serious trust issues and even Emma thought he would only respond to her. But to her surprise, Mikko began walking with her kid!

Emma and Mikko are the perfect examples for that quote. They’ve got lots of wonderful years ahead of them.
