They said this puppy might not survive if she hadn’t stepped in to take him.

Vanessa first saw Magni on a heart-wrenching social media post. He was discovered on the streets, a newborn puppy discarded with the umbilical cord still attached to him. The perpetrator snatched him up from his mother and left him there.

Magni was so weak when he was found and in such rough shape. The rescuers and shelter believed he didn’t have too long to live.

That is until Vanessa learned about Magni’s story.

The shelter had trouble getting black dogs adopted so they were grateful for Vanessa stepping in to take Magni. They did have to warn her though not to keep her hopes up because Magni might not live that long.

Vanessa didn’t have any plans of adopting a dog.

Magni was different. There was something about him that made Vanessa rethink her stance and take him into her home. Magni had a new family.

The first few days were tough.

Vanessa had to bottle feed Magni but he wouldn’t take the bottle.

“It was so overwhelming. He wouldn’t take the bottle… It was so emotionally hard. I didn’t sleep at all. I was just doing my best to keep it all together,” Vanessa told GeoBeats Animals.

It didn’t help that the shelter told her that, with puppies, if they stop eating, then it’s not a good sign.

This broke Vanessa’s heart even more and she was determined to help Magni drink from the bottle. One thing Vanessa knows is that dogs can sense what their human is feeling.

They know when their human is full of hope or full of fear.

Vanessa didn’t want Magni to be scared.

She did what she could to ground herself. She meditated and did what she could to make Magni feel safe and loved.

It worked!

A few days later, Magni started drinking from the bottle. Vanessa still had sleepless nights because she had to feed Magni every two hours.

He was doing it, though, and he was gaining weight!

Before she knew it, Magni was four months old.

He has grown into a beautiful and playful dog. Vanessa knew he was a mixed breed, but since he’s a rescue, she doesn’t know for sure what Magni’s exact breeds were.

It didn’t matter, though, because Vanessa was ready to love him every day.

“He knows warmth, he knows love, he knows gentleness, he knows all the good things,” Vanessa proudly described Magni.

Magni’s first experience with humans was not the greatest, but Vanessa made sure that the rest of his human interaction was the best.

Their relationship started with Magni lying down on Vanessa’s lap. Now, even though he has since gotten a few pounds heavier and several feet bigger, Magni continues to sit on Vanessa’s lap whenever he can.

Magni is always around Vanessa.

If he can’t be sitting on Vanessa, his head or his paw will be on top of her.

Magni may have been taken away from his family but with Vanessa, he has found his forever family.
