A woman accidentally injured the snail while she was in her yard. As she walked through her yard, she stepped on the garden snail. The poor snail’s brittle shell completely shattered. The kind animal lover was upset about the accident, and she rushed the snail to HaClinica animal hospital.

The veterinarians at HaClinica knew just what to do to save the snail.

They quickly assembled a team and began using epoxy glue to put the broken shell back together. They made sure that the glue did not penetrate the inner parts of the shell, which could have hurt the snail. The little snail watched the process from his spot on the operating table.

Once the glue had dried, the snail happily moved back into his home.

On their Facebook page, HaClinica said that the snail would stay for a few weeks or months for rehabilitation. They gave the little snail a name, Chevy, and set him up in his new home. They also gave him plenty of delicious vegetables to eat.

If you find a snail with a broken shell and want to help it, HaClinica offered some suggestions on their Facebook page.

They said to carefully glue the shell back together with epoxy glue. While the snail heals, keep it in a well-ventilated aquarium that has a lid. To aid with the healing process, add a half-inch of water to the bottom of the aquarium, and place a limestone rock in the tank to give the snail calcium. You can find these rocks at pet stores.

Feed the snail fresh vegetables, including lettuce, cucumbers, and peppers. Avoid foods with salt because this could hurt the snail. If the snail doesn’t eat at first, don’t worry. The website Pet Snails says that snails don’t typically eat when they’re injured. It will start eating again once it’s almost healed. The snail should be ready to go back into the wild about 7 to 14 days after its initial injury.
