Although he had always been close with the giant dog, there was one incident that made the boy realize how important pets are in our lives and how strong a bond they develop with humans.

So, when he was about 7 or 8 years old, he was playing in the backyard one day, when a big black and tan dog approached him.

The dog got down, and, as Hamilton recalls, it was getting ready to pounce on him. At the time, Bandit was chained to the dog house. It seemed that little Tom was doomed. But the husky’s love for his best friend was stronger than the chain it was tied with.

“Bandit broke the chain, jumped over me, tackled the dog as it was approaching me, faught it off, and then they ran away,” Dr. Hamilton told Good Morning America.

That’s when Tom realized that this animal was not just his play buddy, but it really loved him. Bandit showed such compassion for his little human friend that made the boy think that he wanted to grow up and do something that has to do with animals for a living.

So, he studied to be a vet, and now he has countless animal friends, with which he is a master of building strong bonds of trust.

Hamilton talks to him about how much he likes his leash, he sits next to him, and even lies on the floor so that his head is lower than that of the dog.

“I felt comfortable enough to lay down on my back and offer my face [for the dog to explore]. It’s a kind of a sign of submission to a submissive dog,” Dr. Hamilton explained.

As the vet explains, it would have been easier for him to take the dog, put it on the bed, do his check-up, and get done with examination and vaccination.

However, he knows that this would be traumatizing for the sweet dog, so he opted for building some trust with him.

“You can see their reaction with just some kindness in that video of just how we start to trust,” the vet explained about the viral video.

As he says, he tries to convey the message to his patients that he has nothing but love for them. He’s not there to hurt them, but only make them feel better.

And it definitely seems that his method works. He’s something like the dog whisperer.
