It’s always sad news to hear that a rescue dog has been returned to his shelter. This poor pup wasn’t just returned to the shelter once, he was returned twice. Two families took this little guy home only to find that they were looking for something else. But one man at the shelter knew that this puppy deserved better.

This man was determined to find out why Abe was brought back.

Abe’s sister had already been adopted and many of the dogs he was around at the office were being adopted as well, and it was clear that Abe was starting to figure it out. After talking it over with his girlfriend, the man decided to foster him.

“I knew he had been through a lot. I just wanted him to know that until we found him a forever home, he wasn’t going anywhere.”

After changing his name to Bean, he made himself at home and his temporary owners were dedicated to working with him to successfully find his forever home.

Working with a puppy…

From the start, it was clear that Bean just had regular puppy tendencies. They chewing. The barking. Struggling to behave on a leash. He was just difficult. But he was also just a puppy and didn’t know any better. His previous owners didn’t have the patience for this.

Then the pandemic hits.

Just as Bean was learning the ropes of his Brooklyn home, Covid hit. It threw a wrench into the man’s plans on how to get Bean adopted. But he was still a member of the family, if only temporarily, and he was now on his way to New Hampshire.

Bean ended up loving New Hampshire.

He saw snow for the first time, he met new people, and more. He also met Tigger and Simba, his new cat friends. There was some tension at first but it didn’t take long before Bean and Tigger were inseparable.

After Bean met more of the family, it was clear what was happening.

Once Bean had spent several months with his ‘temporary’ family and their extended family, it was clear that it was going to be hard for him to ever leave. They were all attached. He was there through the seasons. He was there for one of the family member’s breast cancer recovery- all of it. Bean was helping everyone through the healing process and there was no turning back now.
