“The horse. Here is nobility without conceit, friendship without envy, beauty without vanity. A willing servant, yet never a slave.” – Ronald Duncan

Animals give us unconditional love. They don’t know what hate means, only love and patience. However, the sad reality is that people use their power to abuse animals.

Every day, animal abuse exists. Only a small percent of animal abuse is being reported. Most of them remain hidden. What can these animals do? They don’t have a voice to ask for help.

Major, short for Major Deal, didn’t get a happy start in life. In fact, he spent his life in a living hell until one day; he met a man that will change his life – forever.

Last October 20, 2020, Janna Grapperhaus shared her father’s touching story through Facebook.

She recalled the day that her father bought a young yet vicious stallion and brought it home. She said that according to his profile, Major was previously owned by men who did nothing but abuse animals.

They even used a technique to break the poor horse. They used to mercilessly beat him until he was no longer able to stand, then they would tie his head tightly between posts preventing him to even lay down to rest.

There, the poor horse would spend his night standing without food and water while enduring the pain of his owner’s beating. This would go on for weeks.

The poor horse endured every pain and suffering; until one day, his fate changed, but he wasn’t the gentle horse that he was before.

When Janna’s father brought him home, Major showed how much he had changed. He would barrel through five strands of fence, and without hesitation, he would strike and even bite anyone who tried getting close to him.

Can we even blame his actions?

The poor horse was traumatized. He was terrified of humans, and all he could do was to be vicious so he could protect himself.

Some people would give up on a horse as vicious as him, but not Janna’s dad. He was patient and dedicated to his horse. It was such a tedious task to be able to earn his trust, but he didn’t want to give up.

“I’ll never forget the day my mom called me in a panic: ‘Janna, you’ve got to convince your daddy to get rid of that horse, it’s gonna kill him,'” Janna started her story.

Janna’s father worked so hard to earn Major’s trust – and it worked.

Each day, for hours and hours, Janna’s father spent his time with Major. There, he patiently waited for the horse to know that he wasn’t there to hurt him, but to be his friend.

All his hard work paid off, and Major started trusting him.

“Love won and after two full years, Major allowed my dad to ride him. When dad would go out, Major would kiss him on the head over and over. They had a bond that only horse people could ever understand,” Jenna shared in her post.

It was the most beautiful friendship!

Major opened his heart to Janna’s father. He allowed another human to get close to him, and then, finally, he showed this man how much love he has in his heart.

Unfortunately, her father passed away, and Major’s heart was shattered. According to Janna, it was just right for them to allow this beautiful horse to say goodbye to his best friend.

Attached in Janna’s post was a photo of Major, giving his best friend his farewell kiss.

A single photo that will break anyone’s heart, Major now knows that his best friend is gone.

We’re sure that Janna and her family will take good care of Major, and her father will always be watching his family, and his horse from up above.
