A puppy in Istanbul fell down a 230-foot well and was trapped there for about ten days. Reported by Huffington Post, the four-month-old canine, which seems to be a type of livestock guard dog known as a Kangal, was set free by the collaboration of firefighters and a group of brilliant Turkish teenage engineers.

When the students of the robotics team at Istanbul’s Bahcesehir High School For Science and Technology learned of the trapped puppy, the group came together overnight to build a robotic arm to help lift the pup out of the well to safety.

“The workers would not have been able to rescue the dog without the help of the robotic arm. Their efforts were inhibited by the depth of the well. And the fact that they couldn’t dig a new hole because of concern it would cause the well to collapse entirely,” said one of the members of the robotics team to Huffington Post.

The trapped pup’s dilemma seemed to bring many animal lovers together. On the day of his rescue, a huge crowd gathered together at the site. As the puppy was being lifted to safety, they burst into a loud cheer of joy.

They named the puppy Kuyu, which means “well.” Kuyu is now safe, happy and returning the favor with his second chance at life. He is currently training to become a rescue dog to assist firefighters in saving lives. Kuyu was adopted by the fire department that rescued him.
