As children, many of us often dream of having a horse or a pony. Some of us may have even asked Santa for one.
But 11-year-old Breana Carsey actually got a horse.
Breana had always dreamed of having a broodmare, or a mommy horse. She hoped that the horse would have babies that Breana could turn into a racing champion.
Eventually, her dream came true.
This may be because her dad, Brian Carsey, says that she “has me wrapped around her finger.”
“Absolutely, this was a fairytale for her from day one. We put it off for five years almost because we don’t have a farm. So we’ve gotta go rent stalls somewhere,” Brian Carsey told CBS News.
Breana instantly fell in love with her horse which she named MJB Got Faith.
“I really loved him. He’s super soft too,” she said.
But Brian assumed that having the horse would only be temporary. The horse was a runt from poor breed stock, so he figured his daughter would just want to sell it once he told her that it wouldn’t be able to race.
“She’s like, there’s no price daddy. So I’m talking to my wife and it’s like, we really got ourselves in a mess here,” he explains. “And I don’t know how we’re going to get out of this. So we stake him to the races… The horse that I thought we should have gotten rid of already.”
The family decided they would move forward with boarding and training the horse anyway.
At first, they found that MJB Got Faith was super slow. So slow that he barely even qualified to race.
But by some freak chance, the horse won its first race.
It also won its second, third, and fourth race. It qualified him for the state championship in Columbus, Ohio. Breana had complete faith in her horse the entire time, hence the name she gave her horse.
“And I said baby, ‘If you finish third, you should be so thankful,'” recalls Brian. “She goes, ‘Daddy, if he finishes last I’m going to be thankful. But he’s going to win.'”
Breana was pretty happy to get an “I told you so” moment when he won an Ohio Sire Stakes championship.
“She said, ‘Dad, I told you. You gotta have faith,'” Brian said.
Breana one a hundred thousands dollars that day, she gave half to charity and is saving the other half to buy a farm.
“I just want to have a farm and be able to walk out my backdoor and see him,” she said.
Within a year Breana won a national horse racing award and even landed a book and movie deal. Her dad also got a racehorse which he named Steve Hartman.
Brian’s horse, however, hasn’t won a single race. Breana has even gotten offers to sell her horse but says that she wouldn’t “not even for a million dollars.”
She even said that her horse “deserved a rest” after a busy racing season.
She told Standardbred Canada that her experience has been “amazing” and she is “very thankful for all the blessings” she has received.
Breana was awarded with the official “Pen of the City Seal” from the Mayor of Connersville, Indiana for all her donations of her horse’s winnings and being a positive role model for older and younger generations.
