Many people have seen the viral video of a puppy falling asleep while having a bath making its rounds on the internet.
It’s adorable; a picture of true bliss, but what many don’t know is that just a few weeks earlier, this puppy had been abandoned in a bag in a dumpster with two other siblings.
The poor pup was handed into the Dallas animal services who contacted Claire Fowler – a volunteer at the DFW Rescue Me animal shelter.
The organization saves dogs from animal shelters that are about to be euthanized, dogs that have been orphaned or abandoned or ones that have had to be removed from abusive situations.
When the puppies arrived, they were covered in fleas. “We have to keep them clean since flea anemia can actually kill puppies quite quickly,” said Claire.
After a few days of grooming the fleas had been banished and the adorable puppies had been nursed back to health.
What was missing, however, was a mom that could help raise the puppies properly. With none around that could help out, Claire decided to take on the full-time role herself.
“What people don’t realize is that bottle babies require a lot of time and special care. Not only do they have to be bottle fed every 2-4 hours, they also can’t go to the restroom on their own. Mom usually helps with that so when there’s no mom around it’s a lot of work,” she said.
“The reason I filmed was because he was so content. I really like to document the dogs as they grow- especially with bottle babies and he was just falling asleep so I had to capture the moment.”
His pure content in this video just goes to show how happy he is with his new life at his new home where he’s safe and secure with his other siblings.
