Whining sound under bridge turns out to be coming from tiny dog with muzzle taped shut
How someone could be this cruel is beyond me.

If you’ve ever experienced a moment of divine intervention, you’ll know that fate often has the habit of throwing us into certain scenarios for a reason that only becomes obvious in the future. This is exactly what happened to Bob Hoelter, who, instead of driving the 2-mile journey to his local grocery store like usual, decided to walk the distance one evening.

It was on his walk that Bob heard a despairing sound: a whine that seemed to be coming from below the bridge that he was crossing.

Bob couldn’t figure out where exactly the noise was coming from. Speaking to Stories of the Moment about that night, he recalled looking at the water and the land around it and being unable to see anything. He said:

“I get my flashlight out, because I always carry a flashlight with me. I got to the bottom. I finally see him!”

And there under the bridge was a tiny puppy. It was dirty and scared, and its muzzle had been wrapped tightly shut with electrical tape.

According to Bob, his first thoughts were, “‘Oh, sh*t”. He knew that the puppy desperately needed help, so he wrapped it in his jacket and headed for the Griffith Animal Hospital, begging that it would still be open.

Thankfully, the hospital was open and Bob took the pup straight over to the front desk and explained what had happened. The hospital manager, Lori Kovacich, shared a post to the hospital’s Facebook page documenting her feelings upon seeing the pup. It read:

“Yesterday I was proven wrong. I have not seen it all. In the evening a man walked up to our counter and said he had found a little dog. He raised up this emaciated little pup and to my horror I seen tape around his muzzle!

“Honestly, I didn’t ask the questions I should have. Like where? I just heard by a ditch. I didn’t even say thank you for bringing him to us… Ithink. I just had to get the pup and get him to the back….to help him.”

The post continued to explain what happened when the pup was taken into care. A doctor removed the tape and examined the pup’s injuries, then “through tears” the staff watched him eat hungrily and wag his tail.

Lori said that in her 30 years of working at the hospital, she never thought she’d see such treatment of a dog in real life. According to the medical examinations, the skin beneath the tape was raw and had a “rotting flesh” smell, suggesting it had been there for several days.

The poor pup was also starving, but miraculously, he wasn’t dehydrated and he didn’t have a temperature. He was set to make a full recovery. Lori wrote:

“He could not be more loved and we will nurse him back to health. He will get to know what a real puppy gets to do.”

Lori also added that the pup, now named Louie, will be adopted, hinting that she already knew a “special family” that would be perfect.

Louie has another chance at life, and it’s all thanks to the divine intervention that sent his rescuer, Bob, on a walk to his local grocery store instead of his usual car journey. He said that it made him believe that God had a purpose for everyone, adding:

“We all have our calling. I’m going to have to walk more often, but I sure don’t want to find more dogs under the bridge.”
