Rescued Baby Squirrel Grows Up With Pack Of Dogs
Not sure if the squirrel thinks it’s a dog or the dogs think they are squirrels. But either way, they are so fun to watch.

Zach is one lucky squirrel. The first things he saw when he opened his eyes weren’t his mom and dad, but two very happy dogs named Maddox and Madison. Zach was blown out of his nest by hurricane and for a baby squirrel, the chances of survival were slim. But a man found him and approached Maddox and Madison’s owner asking him to take the squirrel in.

This man has experience with squirrels.

So he took baby Zach in and fed him with his own little baby bottle. As he did so, the two dogs would hover around wondering what and who is that strange looking creature on dad’s chest. The dogs immediately took a liking to the baby squirrel.

They would sniff Zach and lick him with so much affection. It took about a month or so before the squirrel opened his eyes. Zach got bigger and stronger, able to jump and climb around now. He’s showing everyone what he can do!

But Zach loves the dogs!

Especially when Major joined the pack. Wherever Zach goes, Major will follow. If the squirrel is up on the window, the dog is right up there too. It looks like they both enjoy looking out the window. They’re the best of friends!

The size difference doesn’t seem to matter or even exist here. Zach is dwarfed by the retrievers and yet they all share the same sized hearts. In fact, their owner says it even seems like it’s the dogs who are intimidated by Zach.

Zach is the pack’s alpha.

It doesn’t seem like Zach could ever survive if released into the wild. He’s used to the house with his family. And it doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere. Dad says having Zach is amazing and that he never thought he’d have a squirrel in the family. But there you go.

One viewer says,

Not sure if the squirrel think he’s a dog… Or if the dogs believe that they are squirrels.”

That’s a very good observation!

Squirrels either live on tree tops or underground burrows. Females will give birth to two to eight babies. Those little mammals are born blind and will need anywhere between a month to three before opening their eyes. And there are over 200 species.

They are omnivores. Whatever’s available will find its way into their tiny paws and those four front teeth will start gnawing away at the morsel. Which could mean that Zach also feasts on dog food. After all, he is the alpha. Unless the dogs follow Zach’s diet.

Either way, it’s so adorable to see Zach bond with the retrievers. You can bet that Major, Maddox, and Madison have told Zach the story of how he came to join them in that house and how they were watching over him up until he opened his eyes to their world.

They’ve all accepted each others differences, choosing instead to live in harmony. And look at this household! There is so much love and happiness. Who knew that such a small, defenseless little squirrel would change their lives? Life has a funny way of turning things around. It worked for Zach too.
