Sarah gets the cutest greetings in the morning from Pablo and Pedro.
Pablo and Pedro are two prairie dogs that Sarah adopted after their former humans gave them up. Their former humans did not how to take care of them so they were given up.
Since they had gotten used to living with humans, they couldn’t be returned to the wild. They needed to be rehomed with other humans. These two prairie dogs ended up living with the best human family.
They’re so grateful for their new family that they can’t help but greet them with “Yahoo!” in the mornings.
There were several people in the house and Pablo and Pedro greet all of them with “Yahoo!” in the mornings when they see them. It’s the sweetest gesture and the best thing to start anyone’s day.
More than that, the two prairie dogs are the most affectionate animals.
“It’s not enough to be just laying next to you. They have to be on you,” Sarah shared. “We call them the productivity suckers. I couldn’t get anything done.”
They wanted to be petted all the time.
When the humans stopped, even for just a second, Pedro and Pablo would look at them and force them to continue petting them with just a look. These prairie dogs have successfully trained their humans to do their will.
Sarah and her family were unsure whether they should take Pablo and Pedro in because they didn’t know how to take care of them either.
Eventually, they took the two animals in and the rest is history.
It’s not easy to take care of prairie dogs.
“You need to ensure you have the time, energy, and finances available to properly care for a prairie dog. They require a lot of care and attention and will not do well if starved for attention,” Adrienne Kruzer wrote for The Spruce Pets.
They’re also very social creatures, so it’s a good thing the two came together, like a package deal.
Sarah made a brilliant move when she placed their cage in the middle of the action. They stayed where mostly everyone stayed during the day.
They constantly heard voices and saw people. This move was quite comforting for them and matched their personalities.
It’s a good thing they’re like humans.
They move during the day and sleep at night. If it was the other way around, it would have been chaotic for everyone in the house.
It’s definitely a funny scene when the humans would always find Pablo and Pedro under blankets or in the clothes hamper.
Prairie dogs burrow, it’s part of their natural actions. So it’s a good thing there are places in the house where they can still do this.
Pablo and Pedro are also super sweet and affectionate.
When Sarah is watching a movie or she was sick at home, they would lie down beside her the whole time. Sarah managed to find a hoodie and placed them in the hoodie while they lay down on the bed or couch.
“They loved it! They would sleep in there, as long as I pet them occasionally,” Sarah shared.
