Special needs cats can face many obstacles in life— especially if they do not have a home. These affectionate and loyal felines are often put on kitty death row because they require too much care, and families don’t seem very interested in taking them. Luckily, there are a few angels among us willing to take these vulnerable beauties under their wing.
Turbo is a special needs kitty that was paralyzed after being slammed in a car door. As a result of the tragic injury, Turbo suffered severe spinal cord damage and lost the use of both back legs. When the kitty was “broken”, his family no longer wanted him, abandoning him at an animal hospital in Southern New Jersey.
Turbo’s new mom Chelsey said she’s not sure if the injury was an accident or on purpose, “However, I can speculate that they likely didn’t care too much for him if they just surrendered him to the animal hospital and never looked back.”
When Chelsey saw a photo of Turbo online, her heart called out to the tiny kitten, and she knew she had to help. Still, in a recent interview with The Dodo, she admits she was “over her head”. With his paralysis, Turbo required a lot of special care, and although Chelsey was just an amateur, she quickly learned the tricks of the trade and became an expert in caring for these types of special cats.
As Chelsey and Turbo grew closer, they worked hard to improve his quality of life. Chelsey even bought the kitty his very own wheelchair…
But she soon realized that Turbo, the little rascal, preferred to be on his own.
Now Turbo is big and strong. And even though he can’t use his back legs, it hasn’t stopped him from getting around.
Chelsey also adopted a second paralyzed kitten named Tilly— a ginger girl who loves spending time with her new brother and brand-new mom.
Chelsey wrote, “Turbo and Tilly both had such rough starts to life, and yet they’re now both such cherished members of this little family of three.”
“I don’t know what my life would be without these two… I want to thank them for giving their love to me. Unconditionally, forever.”
“Every animal deserves love and comfort and to be treated with kindness. Open your heart and rescue a shelter animal. I promise it’ll change your life for the better!”
