Mom Cait Oakley was sitting down in her home enjoying a peaceful bonding moment with her baby girl whom she was breastfeeding.
Cait and her hubby Mike, the parents of three kiddos, also have a menagerie of critters living at their home in North Saanich, British Columbia.
Unfortunately, it isn’t uncommon for predators to capture some of their critters, especially their chickens.
In fact, three fowl had been killed by an unseen attacker within the past week.
Cait wasn’t having it.
Cait quickly learned just who the guilty party was one afternoon.
Frankie their pet goose was meandering around outdoors near the home when, out of nowhere, a bald eagle swooped down on their welcome mat and attacked an unsuspecting Frankie!
Frantic Honking Frankie
Cait heard Frankie honking in alarm and without breaking her baby girl’s latch on her breast, sprang up from her seat, sprinted outside in nothing but a pair of undies and screamed “Hey! Hey! Hey!” at the top of her lungs at the goose.
“You can’t make this up,” Cait jokingly said about dashing outside topless and in her undies to rescue the goose. “I didn’t think twice about saving Frankie.”
A mother through and through.
Even more impressive is that Cait chased after the bald eagle while still managing to nurse her baby.
The entire incident was captured on their front door camera.
From the moment the big bird swooped down and tried to sink her talons deep in poor Frankie, dragging her down the driveway, to the point when the bald eagle finally let go and flew off.
Frankie hustled back to the safety of her home as soon as the eagle released her deadly grip on her.
Safe And Sound
Miraculously, Frankie was completely unharmed although she likely is absolutely petrified of bald eagles now.
“Not a scratch, not a feather missing, all good,” Cait said.
Frankie has been trained to waddle to their front door if she needs their attention, which she’s done before when raccoons invaded the property.
“She just sounded different so I went to the front door in the middle of feeding our babe. As soon as I opened the door the eagle just swooped down right then. That was the only thing in my head, just like, ‘Drop it!'”
Safeguarding Frankie
Even though Frankie is still allowed to meander around their property, the couple has clamped down on just how much freedom she has in an effort to keep her safer, as well as their other critters.
“She’s definitely a part of the family. She wanders around with us when we’re gardening. She’ll nibble at you – at your clothes – for treats. She’s a very big presence in our lives,” Cait said. “We’ve lost a lot of animals due to hawks and minks and otters and raccoons, so now we have everything secure.”
Mike knew something was up when he heard Cait shouting.
His reaction was priceless.
“Mike just ran outside and the first thing he said to me was, ‘You’re topless,’ and I’m like, ‘I’m very aware of the situation,'” Cait said.
Video’s Gone Viral
Cait’s quick thinking and immediate reaction while not even breaking stride nursing her baby impressed Mike who shared the doorbell video on TikTok.
“Mama bear mid breastfeeding protecting her sweet Frankie,” he captioned the video. “Officially living at a zoo.”
That video has since exploded online.
“If something was to go viral, I’d prefer to be clothed and not in some boxer briefs but hey, you know what, that’s momhood. Got to save my goose from the eagle,” she said.
Supermom Cait
Viewers were thrilled by Cait’s protection of her tiny human and pet babies, even calling her a “supermom.”
“Not all heroes wear capes…some [wear] a baby,” one comment said. “This was awesome.”
“I love your determination to protect and save!” applauded another viewer. “Great mommy material there!”
In response to this praise, Cait simply replied,
“I feel like mothers multitask every day, this is just a token to that—we’re always on the go [and] taking on whatever comes our way.”
