As all Earth’s creatures try to adapt to living alongside humans, many of them struggle and face difficulty. From tigers to whales, animals are trying to fight for their niche in a changing world.

As humans expand and multiply across the planet, animals try to find ways to live with us.

Many animals and creatures love the fact that humans have taken over the world (looking at you, mice, rats, and roaches). Others, however, struggle. For many of these little animals, they get trapped and stuck in human homes and yards.

For this little hummingbird, it got confused by a garage.

Will Salameh found a little hummingbird is his garage one day. When he found the bird, it was barely moving and was struggling to even respond to his presence. Will realized the bird had been locked in his garage overnight.

It’s difficult to tell the hummingbird’s species without knowing where the video took place, but it is an iridescent green with a white belly.

There are 330 known species of hummingbird, many of them with similar characteristics. When Will found this little guy in his garage, he knew exactly what to do.

Hummingbirds live off of nectar and Will made his own concoction.

Hummingbirds need a lot of sugar, which usually comes from nectar in the wild. They also eat bugs and tree sap on a regular basis. When Will had caught the one in his garage, he made his own little mixture of water and sugar to simulate nectar.

Over the course of the next few hours, Will fed the little bird.

Hummingbirds need to eat half their weight in sugar each day to survive. Their metabolisms are so high that they need the sugar to flap their little wings as fast as they do.

When a hummingbird doesn’t have enough food, it can become lethargic and die within a few h0urs.

Hummingbird Guide says:

Hummingbirds digest their food in 20 minutes with great efficiency. They extract more than 90% of the sucrose and eliminate the water. If you have ever watched a hummingbird perch, you now know that they are not resting but busy digesting food.

If they stop eating, they won’t make it because of their metabolism.

The reason the bird didn’t fly away from Will was that it hadn’t eaten in so long.

Thankfully, Will found the little guy and started feeding him right away. It took some time for the little bird to build up its strength again, but after a few hours, it began to recover. After a bit longer, it was even able to sit on his finger!

Finally, Will took the bird outside for it to try to fly away.

After one last feeding, the bird was ready to go. Buzzing away, it resumed its constant search for nectar and bugs! Thankfully this little guy had heart. As a matter of fact, hummingbirds have the largest heart to body ratio of any birds around!

Hummingbirds have the largest heart of any bird for its size. Its heart rate is often more that 1,200 beats per minute.

From what we can tell, the buzzy little bird seems to be doing fine. Will was the hero and saved its life! It is a good reminder of the impact that humans can have on Earth’s creatures, even the smallest ones.
