“Unwanted” and “puppies” should never be in the same sentence.
But when Brady Oliveria stumbled across a Facebook post, that’s what it said.
To make matters worse, those two words were right next to each other if you could believe it.
How could sweet puppies ever be “unwanted?” The listing for “Unwanted puppies” was followed by “Get them off my property!”
Yeah… so, Oliveria got over there quick.
When Oliveria, a running back for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, isn’t running up and down the football field, he’s rescuing animals in need for K9 Advocated Manitoba.
“K9 is the voice for the voiceless. What I do with K9 Advocates is rescue dogs in sometimes far away communities and bring them back to be cared for or fostered. I use my platform to help K9 collect donations and raise money,” he told Pet Lifestyle Magazine.

When Oliveria arrived at the address, the puppies were sitting in a cardboard box.
Some had wandered off onto the snow-covered ground.
Oliveria and his partner started scooping up the babies. That’s when their mom came out.
She knew that Oliveria had her babies, but Oliveria was going to bring her along too.
But Oliveria only spotted two puppies.
They soon heard some barking and crying and that’s what lead them to the rest of the puppies.
“They were just extremely scared,” said Oliveria.
Oliveria coaxed them a bit and was eventually able to calmly grab them up.
“One, in particular, didn’t want to come out. She was fast. She was super smart,” said Oliveria. “The look of her eyes it was just heartbreaking to see.”
Oliveria was able to get to the dog who was under the porch. He promised her that she would have a good life now that she was in good hands and kissed her on the cheek. They ended up getting all of the puppies, plus mom, in the car where they were nice and warm.
“Off to their fosters, it was like a clown car,” Oliveria said.
But Oliveria had a special bond with the girl that gave him some trouble.
“That was like my baby. She was on my lap the entire way home back to Winnipeg,” he said. “I made a bond with her. Just knowing they’re safe and they’re protected. These puppies were having the best sleep of their lives.”
Eventually, all of the pups were fostered and then adopted. And Oliveria was happy to see them be with loving families in forever homes.
“There’s just something about them that just touches your heart a little differently,” he said. “They all got adopted, even the mom got adopted.”
The pup that stopped his heart was also adopted and named “Bagel” by her new mom.
“She definitely looks like a bagel. They go from living in a cardboard box to now living the good life with great families. Life is good for them.”
