Humans don’t have a monopoly on dancing! Animals all across the world “dance” in ways that are often just as complicated and unique as human routines are. Take the Vogelkop bird, for example.

The Vogelkop bird is a bird of paradise that likes to dance to show off to potential mates!

If you’ve ever watched nature documentaries, it’s likely that you’ve seen this stunning bird before. It has extremely dark feathers with an iridescent blue patch near the bottom. To get the attention of a female, the bird opens its feathers up and dances a very special dance that humans are just starting to understand.

Birds literally have dance battles to determine who wins the girl!

Seems like birds and cheesy dance movies aren’t all that different, are they? While the Vogelkop is one of the most beautiful and exotic dancers on the planet, there is a much more common one that we may have seen before – horses!

If you want to see dancing horses, a quick trip to New Orleans as the sun sets is sure to provide. The patrolling police officers often ride horses and incredibly, many of the horses are taught to dance to the music that the officers will occasionally encounter while on the streets! As bands play, officers astride beautiful horses shimmy and sidestep to the tunes.

Outside of New Orleans, horses are still dancing.

A video from a few years ago shows how horses dance alongside humans! We get to see a farm horse dancing with two of his friends, little girls who live on the farm as well. If this doesn’t show how smart animals can be, what will?

As the girls dance we see the horse tied to a lead near the fence.

Although it has a lead on, it still wants to show off its dance moves! As the music plays the horse rocks back and forth, nearly in perfect time with the song that’s playing. As you can imagine with the video being filmed in 2016, the horse is dancing and the owner called it the “neigh-neigh” – witty, right?

This horse got down and neigh neigh-ed with these two girls. They all shimmied their shoulders and grooved to the music playing in the background.

Many animals can dance and humans can occasionally join them.

In human culture, dancing together shows good wishes and creates a sense of connection. As we can see from all these videos and photos, we may be able to bond with different animals simply through a song or two. Now THAT’S the power of music!
