There are few things as powerful as a mother’s love. But it’s not just human mothers who will do anything to protect their babies. In the animal kingdom, elephants, big cats, and bears are known to fiercely protect their young.
Recently, one cat’s fearless attack on three huge dogs has really driven the point home: never mess with a mama’s baby.
In Turkey, cats rule the streets. Thousands of cats wander through the markets and ancient ruins, napping, playing, and being petted by the locals who love them.
Sidewalks are lined with bowls of water and dry cat food and, in the colder months, citizens all over the cities erect shelters for their beloved street cats.
But it’s not just cats who have to exist peacefully with Turkey’s inhabitants. There are thousands of stray dogs, as well.
With stray cats and dogs living together on the streets, there are bound to be a few scuffles. And, unfortunately, humans are not always around to intervene.
A security camera at a jewelry market in Adana captured a terrifying scene: a pack of dogs cornering a tiny, frightened kitten.
Three stray dogs advanced on the poor creature as he backed up against a wall with nowhere to go. The kitten bravely tried to defend himself, but he was no match for the dogs.
He was trapped.
The dogs moved closer and closer, closing in on him. The kitten faced them head-on, hissing and trying to appear bigger than he really was – but the dogs wouldn’t be dissuaded.
The kitten turns suddenly and dashes around the corner, out of the camera’s view. The dogs follow – it looks like tragedy is certain.
But the dogs didn’t know that they were being watched.
Something appears from the corner of the screen. She’s running so fast that she’s just a grey blur. She goes around the corner and dives straight into the fray, claws out and hissing.
It’s the kitten’s mother… and she’s about to teach the dogs that it was a very bad idea to tangle with her baby!
She leaps onto the back of one of the dogs and gives him a good clawing – she doesn’t care that she’s outnumbered or that she’s less than half the dogs’ size.
With her motherly instincts kicking in, she’s willing to risk it all for her kitten and sacrifice herself.
The dogs leave the kitten alone and turn to face their attacker. They circle her, as if unsure whether to fight or fly.
The mama cat puffs herself up and lets out a mighty yowl – as if to let them know who is boss!
The dogs are waiting for her next move – she’s aware that the wrong one could mean she’s done for. but the fearless cat holds her ground. A few seconds pass, and the dogs begin to retreat.
But she’s not done with them yet.
Defeated, the three frightened dogs scatter and run out the market square – with the mama cat hot on their heels.
This mama cat really showed this pack of dogs that, when it comes to her baby, she doesn’t play around!
