The connection that we all have with nature is sometimes easy to forget in the “bubble lives” that we live. From the house to the car, from the car to work, then play it in reverse. Most of our day and time is spent disconnected from nature (and sometimes disconnected from even the world around us)!

Despite that, we are sometimes reminded of just how beautiful those little moments can be.

What is one of the best ways to feel reconnected with the environment around us? Getting an active dog! If you get a dog that needs to be outside a few hours a day, you can’t help but find yourself in nature more often.

Lauren Sturges was out with her dog when she saw a line of vehicles stopped on US highway 34. For someone who lives in Colorado, it wasn’t too hard to guess what was going on. It was nearly spring, and the great elk migration was happening!

With so many elk being present, it makes sense that people get used to them. When one of the many herds decides to cross a road, you can’t do much about it! Her incredible moment couldn’t have come at a better time, either.

Lauren was out with her dog and caring for her animals when the herd crossed into her yard.

Incredibly, her dog didn’t scare them away at all! Her puppy, a five-month-old Great Pyrenees, blended in perfectly with the stark white snow. Lauren watched as he slowly walked up to one of the nearby elk and gave it a kiss right on the nose!

After the kiss, the elk decided that he was going to kiss right back!

Incredibly, there wasn’t any fear between the two animals, and the moment was gentle and serene.

“I was almost in tears, it was so beautiful. It was magical. It was kind of a reward after working our butts off all weekend.”

The timing of the moment was perfect for Lauren, too.

She had been caring for the animals of TWO households over the past weekend and had spent hours shoveling snow and working amid a long power outage. She needed to see something sweet to pull her out of the mood she was in!

To finisher her day out, one final thing happened.

After getting her pups inside and making sure they were secured, she walked across the field and came across one final moment – a bald eagle had flown down and was sitting on the fence, staring at her. While she didn’t capture this moment on camera, she DID capture the kisses between the elk and her puppy.
