Sometimes people, or animals, are just meant to be together and when they are separated their worlds come tumbling down. Mr. G the goat was completely despondent when he arrived at Animal Place Rescue in Grass Valley, California.

He was rescued from a hoarding situation where he was kept in a 12-foot by 12-foot dirt plot without shade or shelter and very little food or water, according to FaithTap.

The only thing that kept Mr. G happy during the 10 years he spent in that abusive environment was his friend Jellybean the burro. Jellybean, however, was taken to a different sanctuary that was 7 hours away from where Mr. G was.

“We didn’t know that Mr. G and Jellybean were such close friends until he arrived an stopped eating,” an Animal Place Recue video tells. “He laid in the corner of his stall and refused to eat or go outside for six days. He was extremely depressed but otherwise completely healthy.”

The staff at Animal Place couldn’t stand to see Mr. G in such pain. There seemed to be only one thing they could do to prevent him from feeling sad and lonely, and that was to reunite him with Jellybean.

The sanctuary never cared for a burro before but one of their volunteers decided to make a very long and selfless journey just so that Mr. G would be happy again.

“Volunteer Jeff McCracken offered to drive 14 hours roundtrip to bring Jellybean to our sanctuary,” the video tells us. “We had never taken in a burro before but we knew these friends needed to be together.”

When Jellybean arrived at the sanctuary, Mr. G immediately sensed his presence.

“Mr. G could hear Jellybean being uploaded and for the first time perked up,” the video explains. “It seems that Mr. G could barely believe that Jellybean was there!”

Mr. G’s personality immediately changed and he seemed to come alive inside. He was stuck firm to Jellybean’s side and didn’t leave it.

Within about 20 minutes, Mr. G was eating again… from Jellybean’s bowl. Everyone at the sanctuary was overjoyed to see the two old friends reunited again and Mr. G’s spirit lifted.

“Animals have the ability to form friendships and feel deep emotions just like us,” the video says.
