Emre Olceroglu is an avid fisherman who loves sharing his fishing adventures on his YouTube channel. One day, Olceroglu decided to go fishing at a peaceful lake in New Jersey, and he brought along his camera to document his trip. But things didn’t go as planned.
When Olceroglu arrived at the lake, he found a distressed owl tangled up in a fishing line that was attached to a tree.
Olceroglu knew he had to help the little owl in any way he could. He filmed the dramatic rescue and uploaded the video to his YouTube channel.
When the owl first saw Olceroglu, he let out a loud screech.
The scared owl tried to fly away, but he could only fly in circles. One of his wings was completely tangled up in the fishing line.
“Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid,” Olceroglu said as he approached the owl.
Olceroglu grabbed onto the owl and held him. Olceroglu used a pair of nail clippers he happened to have on hand to cut the line. That freed the owl from the tree, but the fishing line was still tangled around his wing.
“Okay, that was one part one,” Olceroglu said in his video. “Now he’s free of the line, and now I’m going to try to cut this piece of line without letting him fly away, because if he flies away he’s going to have to live with this piece of line here for all his life.”
Olceroglu gently and methodically cut the line around the owl’s wing using his nail clippers. He was careful, and he made sure he didn’t accidentally hurt the owl.
The owl quieted down and grew still—he seemed to understand that Olceroglu was trying to help him.
Finally, Olceroglu finished cutting the line, and the owl’s wing was free. For a moment, the owl didn’t move, and Olceroglu panicked, fearing the worse. But thankfully, the owl was just in shock. A moment later, he hopped away from Olceroglu and then jumped onto a log.
Olceroglu followed the owl, worried that his wing was broken and he wouldn’t be able to fly. The owl was fine, though. After taking a moment to get his bearings, he flew across the lake, clearly happy to be free!
YouTube commenters were very impressed with the way Olceroglu handled the owl rescue.
