This winter has been one for the record books. With powerful forces like the Bomb Cyclone snowstorm, the east coast of the United States saw several inches of more snow than they are traditionally used to.

This weather change had both good and bad effects on our animal friends. One horse loved the cold, but another dog got trapped in a frozen lake from running around in a park.

Some animals had to work together to keep each other room, like this heart-wrenching story of distressed manatees keeping warm together in freezing water.

But other animals worked together in a more heartwarming way, like in the video below.

In Tannersville, New York, USA, a snowstorm named Stella swept over the region. This resulted in a very white Christmas with blankets of snow covering the ground and roads.

Kanawha, a German Shepherd, and Knuckles, a blue-nosed Pitbull, were out for a walk with their owner Brian Wagner when Knuckles ran into some trouble. She accidentally trapped herself by the dumpster and couldn’t walk through the snow!

Considering the snow is almost as tall is Knuckles is, her predicament is understandable. The poor girl couldn’t move her little legs over the thick snow!

Kanawha was looking between Knuckles and Brian when Knuckles realized she was trapped.

Once Kanawha saw the helpless look Knuckles gave to Brian, the German Shepherd knew she had to help her furry friend out!

Kanawha literally sprung into action, using her larger frame to clear a pathway through the snow. The way she hops through the deep snow is a little amusing to watch.

Within seconds, a pathway is cleared, and Knuckles was able to safely cross the snow back to her owner Brian.

Regarding the ordeal, Brian – who is originally from Brooklyn, New York – said, “I couldn’t help but chuckle at Knuckles.”

Thankfully, both dogs finished their snowy walk without any further issues.

Thanks to Kanawha’s quick thinking, Knuckles was rescued quickly without any further distress. I hope Kanawha got some extra treats that night for being a hero!
