As an animal lover, this video put me on the edge of my seat. Seeing animals in distress is stressful – but seeing them in a life threatening situation is agonizing.
Hardy, a precious black dog, had been running around and playing in the park when he fell into a frozen lake. He desperately clung to the side of the ice to stay afloat.
RSPCA Officer Jaqui bravely endeavored to save Hardy. She slowly made her way to him, using an ice pick to slide herself across the ice. The situation was dangerous – the ice could have broken around her at any moment.
Still, RSPCA Officer Jaqui put her life on the line to save the innocent dog.
By the time Officer Jaqui reaches Hardy, he is visibly shaken. She repeatedly calls out to him, telling him he is a “good boy” to try and keep him calm.
Finally, Officer Jaqui manages to reach Hardy – but the ice starts to break beneath them under their combined weight. Officer Jaqui moves fast. She grabs onto the scruff of Hardy’s neck and barely manages to pull him out.
Thanks to her brave efforts, the precious dog is free! He safely makes his way back to land where rescuers wait to dry him off with towels. Officer Jaqui is also pulled back to safety.
In the end, Hardy was able to be rescued with only a minor cut to his paw. He is definitely one lucky boy, and RSPCA Officer Jacqui and her team did a wonderful job saving him.
