Most of the time, if you want a pet, you go looking for one who fits your personality.

Sometimes, it’s the other way around, and the perfect pet comes into your life unexpectedly.

On March 30, 2019, a family was out riding their bikes when they heard a puppy calling for help.

They stopped and searched where the sound came from, and saw that it was a puppy trapped underneath some pile of rocks.

The members of the family felt so sorry for the poor puppy that they tried to rescue him.

Unfortunately, the rocks were so heavy, and he was stuck.

The family called 911 and Capt. Paul Bryant of the North Charleston Fire Department responded to the distress call.

Engine 201 responded with Capt. Paul Bryant leading the team.

When he first got to the scene, there were already many people looking.

Upon arriving at the site, he found large rocks and attempted to locate the puppy.

He took a shovel and dug down on the rocks.

“You can do it. You can do it,” Capt. Paul Bryant said these words of encouragement to the puppy. “Come on! There we go! How are you?” he added.

After getting a bigger space, he grabbed the dog’s front paws and carefully pulled him out.

The puppy immediately gave him kisses on the face!

“How can you not fall in love with him,” said Capt. Paul Bryant.

The family who found him took him and said they were to bring him to the vet and would also check if he was chipped.

After that day, Capt. Paul Bryant couldn’t help but think about the puppy he rescued.

Was he okay? Were they able to reunite him with his family?

This is when he decided to check on the puppy wasn’t chipped!

He told himself that if he goes to SPCA, he’ll adopt the puppy.

Just a week later, Capt. Bryant received a phone call informing him that the puppy arrived at SPCA and that his name is number one on their list.

He never felt so excited!

This was actually Capt. Paul Bryant’s first animal rescue after being in the service for 34 long years.

After completing all the requirements, he was ready to take home the puppy.

While waiting, some members of the establishment asked him some questions.

It turned out that Capt. Paul had recently lost a pet and he and his family were looking for a dog to adopt.

Now, as fate had heard him, this little puppy came into their lives.

He shared that the puppy’s name would be ‘Rocky.’

We think that’s the most suitable name for this bundle of joy.

As Rocky went outside, he immediately recognized Capt. Paul and he ran to him, giving him those wet kisses.

Everyone laughed, and we hear one person saying that the puppy always knew that the kind-hearted captain was his daddy.

Rocky went home with his fur dad wagging his tail, knowing he will have a wonderful life.

For Capt. Paul, Rocky is his early retirement gift, and he, along with his family, couldn’t ask for more.
