Mama dogs will do anything for their puppies! They truly love them and always have the time and patience to deal with them, even when they are a bit annoying. What happens when one mama dog loses her puppies?
One dog turned into a mom for a night when she did something incredible.
Dogs are so smart it can be scary sometimes. They can read human emotion, use special buttons to communicate, and act as workers alongside humans. They are some pretty incredible animals. When they set their mind to do something, they won’t stop until they accomplish it. This dog shows what it means to be persistent.
An Australian shepherd mix named Maggie was in her kennel when she heard some puppies nearby whining.
Like any good mother, Maggie knew that these puppies were scared and confused. Maggie and the pups lived in an animal boarding house called Barkers where there were lots of dogs waiting to be adopted. She probably knew how scary it could be to be in a kennel alone at night in a place that is completely unknown.
She was caught on camera breaking out of her kennel, only to lay next to the crying puppies.
Once she broke out of her kennel, she walked around looking for the location of the crying puppies. What might have led her to do this? Well, further research into the story seems to shed some light on it.
On Barkers Facebook, they explained that Maggie recently had puppies of her own.
Reshareworthy summarized it by saying:
“Maggie was recently adopted from the Edmonton Humane Society and had her own puppies who had been weaned and taken away from her around 2 weeks ago. She was boarding with Barker’s for a few days while her new parents were away.”
Sandy, the owner of Barkers, saw it all happen on video.
Going back to the kennels, Sandy found Maggie sitting at the gate licking and laying with the scared puppies. Maggie looked at her expectantly and Sandy knew just what to do.
Deciding that the three of them would do better together, Sandy put Maggie with the pups!
With some cute licking and nuzzling, Maggie and the pups were as happy as could be. The foster mom spent a night with the pups she wanted to be with and the pups were comforted.
They think they have a pretty special dog on their hands,” said Sandy of Maggie’s parents when they learned what she had done.
When Maggie left to go home, the shelter owners started taking the pups home at night!
It seems that Maggie’s actions inspired something in the humans! They probably realized just how scared they were at night. Since they weren’t just boarding at Barkers and were waiting to be adopted, some of the workers started taking them home at night, just to love on them a bit. They also have pending adoptions!
