Heroes come in all shapes, sizes, and even species.
In this incredible story and video footage, the hero happens to be an unsuspecting pup named Randy – but Randy’s life hadn’t started with such celebrity, he earned that status after being taken in by a group of gas station employees.
Two years ago, in the city of Tamaulipas, Mexico, a skittish and emaciated dog started to show up around the gas station grounds. He became such a regular visitor that the gas station employees couldn’t help but notice and start to care for the scared dog.
The then-unnamed dog was quite timid the first time anyone tried to approach him – it was clear that he had suffered heartbreaking mistreatment in his life.
However, with a bit of persistence and a lot of patience, the gas station staff were soon able to gain the dog’s trust. Once this happened, they decided to officially adopt him and make him the gas station’s resident pet.
“We fed him, bathed him and got him vaccinated,” Gerardo Aguilar, the gas station’s owner, told The Dodo. “We adopted him. Now he lives here, and is cared for by all the workers.”
Once they welcomed him into their unofficial family, the staff decided to give him a name – Randy. Little did they know when they gave him a run-of-the-mill name, he would be anything but a run-of-the-mill dog. In fact, he would soon become a hero and a bit of a local celebrity. The once stray dog would soon repay them for their kindness in the most courageous and fearless way possible.
Recently, on what seemed to be a normal evening at the pumps, two armed robbers showed up demanding money.
The robbers rushed a gas station attendant and demanded that he open up the office where all of the money is kept. When the worker refused, the two men unleashed a violent assault upon the man – punching him multiple times and knocking him to the ground. Be forewarned – the video below may be a bit difficult to watch for our sensitive readers.
The attendant was outnumbered, being violently kicked and punched by the two men – but he wouldn’t be outnumbered for long.
The two criminals had no idea that Randy, their faithful and loyal dog, was sleeping in the nearby warehouse. After being awakened by the commotion, Randy came rushing in to help.
Without any delay or hesitation whatsoever, Randy barks ferociously and scares off the two assailants before they were able to cause any more harm to the terrified pump worker.
Security cameras had been filming the whole time and the entire incident was caught on video.
As it’s completely clear in the footage below – Randy saved the day and prevented what could have been a tragic ending.
“We were surprised to see how he reacted, and of course we are proud of him,” Aguilar recounted. “If it weren’t for Randy, who knows how things would have ended. He shows us how grateful and happy he is with us.”
As for Randy, he’s just living his best life at being a welcoming and smiling face to all the patrons that come by the gas station. People look forward to coming by, just to see the sweet dog’s adorable face and wagging tail.
Local residents, like Nuria Arellano, specifically visit this particular gas station just because of Randy.
“He makes it a better experience. I always call him, and he gets in the door of my truck and brings his face to mine,” Arellano said. “It would be wonderful if the culture changed and there were more rescued puppies at other gas stations and other stores. Let’s hope this happens one day.”
We couldn’t agree more with Arellano – it’s clear that dogs make our lives better and happier just by having them around. Plus, you never know when one might save your life.
