BenBen was a defenseless cat living in the wild, fending for himself before he was saved.
When he was found, he was in terrible, debilitating condition.
He was taken to the vet and assessed for any health related issues and they shockingly discovered that he had a crushed spine, deep lacerations, and a cauliflower ear.
All of these injuries meant that he couldn’t walk and so when he was brought to the rescue center he sat silently in his cage waiting for someone to take him home.
“His face permanently looks sad because he has a lot of excess skin on the face, and no one knows why,” said Adam, BenBen’s dad.
“At that point, he was deemed ‘unadoptable’. The vets said he’d never walk and he’d be on pain meds for the rest of his life.”
Adam and Sandy saw BenBen and knew they had to step in and help turn his life around.
They brought BenBen into his new home and within hours they saw happiness entering his life for the first time.
“We sat down with him for about an hour and he was instantly full of purrs, smiles, and ‘thank you’ cuddles,” said Adam.
BenBen started his recovery process shortly after settling into his new home. With lots of love and support he began walking again and now he can even run and jump, proving that with love anything is possible.
Four months later the couple was told about another kitty who was in desperate need of a forever home.
His name was Norman and he had Cerebellar Hypoplasia – a condition that affected his motor skills. Norman had been patiently waiting for a mom and dad after being abandoned as a kitten, but no one wanted him.
“(He was) left behind in an apartment. Some really good person saved him but due to his condition, no one wanted to take this baby home,” said Adam.
Sandy and Adam couldn’t resist and thought he would make an excellent brother for BenBen.
The pair had an instant connection. BenBen took on the role as his protector and helped him settle into his new home.
From there, the two have remained inseparable friends who never fight. As they are both different special needs cats, the two do what they can to look out for one another.
