At just 2 years old, Brown was diagnosed with speech, comprehension, and fine motor skills delays. But despite that, he took up sewing at the age of 8 to help improve his dexterity and keep his hands active.

In the beginning, his goal was to help his sister – a hairdresser – make hair bows.

But she soon realized that her little brother might want to make something he could actually use, so she put a strap on one of the bows and turned it into a bowtie.

In 2017, the young man watched in horror as stories about abandoned pets and crowded shelters filled the airwaves following Hurricanes Harvey and Irma in Texas and Florida.

Hoping to help them out, he came up with the idea of fashioning bowties for the shelter cats and dogs so that they were more likely to get adopted.

You’ve got to dress the part, after all!

“At first I didn’t get it,” his mother Joy Brown told Good Morning America. “But then he explained that he could donate his bow ties to the shelters and if the dogs wear them they’ll be looking cute and dapper and people will want to adopt them.”

Brown was right about the power of the bowties. He made over 400 of them and started an organization called Beaux and Paws to help market and sell the ties to people and their fur babies.

With the proceeds, he’s able to donate bowties to shelters, and he estimates he’s gotten at least 100 animals adopted through his efforts.

In 2018, former president Barack Obama sent him a letter of recognition for his selfless service.

It read, in part:

“From founding Beaux and Paws to lifting up the lives of those around you, it’s clear you are doing your part to look out for your fellow citizens. And I trust you take tremendous pride in all you have accomplished. As long as you stay engaged in the world around you, continue looking for ways to help others and never give up on yourself, I’m confident our future will be bright.”

Brown took that moment to remind everyone who had ever doubted him that persistence is key.

“Some people doubted me, laughed at me, criticized me, some even said I was too young. But, I never let any of that negativity stop me. I never gave up. I’m extremely proud to know that I have been former “PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA APPROVED”. ***NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF.”

Brown’s latest good deed has been to find a way to support people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The teen announced on March 28th on his official Instagram page that he would be firing up his Singer sewing machine to make protective cloth face masks.

“Today I am working on creating surgical masks to donate since the hospitals have a shortage on masks. This first one came out great. Let’s all work together, help out where we can, and especially practice social distancing so we can all get through this pandemic,” he wrote.

In addition to all of his awards and good deeds, Brown is also a stellar student, though we’re not sure where he finds the time to do it all!
