Not all animals and pets have the best starts to life. It can be a tough and difficult journey for many of them. Many dogs are perfect examples of this. They have incredibly hard lives that could break even the most calloused heart.
The wonderful thing, though, is that the hearts of dogs are somehow indestructible! They always find a way to love other people, no matter the hurt they have been through.
Sherio is a dog who knows all about difficult starts.
Sherio didn’t have a loving family for most of his life. He was born deaf and partially blind, making it difficult for him to find a loving and caring forever home. Many owners aren’t looking for a rescue dog that has special needs.
Over the years, he has seen a lot.
You can always tell a world-traveled individual. They are confident in themselves because they have seen about all there is to see! Sherio has lived in two shelters and 12 foster homes over the years. More than that, he has even been adopted four times and was brought back each time.
Despite all these difficulties, he never lost his spirit.
The fighting spirit that dogs have is an incredible thing. Often, all it takes is someone who cares enough to spend the time inviting in and loving on the dog in need. For Sherio, that human was Sheryl Smith.
Sheryl Smith decided to adopt the fun-loving dog, special needs, and all.
Sheryl loved to care for animals that were in need. When she met Sherio, she knew it was a perfect match. Since Sheryl has such a passion to care for animals in need, Sherio loves to play his part in the family.
As an animal foster mom, there are tons of creatures that grace their doors.
The wonderful part about their relationship is how willing Sherio is to be a part of the family business! Every animal that comes through their doors gets the love and care that they need from Sheryl – only now, Sherio adds to it!
Sherio has become a “foster dog” himself!
After all the experience that Sherio had with rejection and foster care, he knows what it is like. Now, he pours out his love and care to every animal that passes through their house! He is a foster-dog-dog!
Whether it’s a lick or kiss, Sherio is on the job!
No matter the creature or species, Sherio is always ready to go. He loves to give the best licks and kisses to anyone who needs it.
”Just after his rescue l rescued a pregnant dog who was too sick to care for her pups, so [Sherio] climbed in with them and started cleaning them. He’s done that with every rescue I take in. He will just sit patiently with the feral cats/kittens and bonds so strongly with them, they trust him before they trust me.”
The animals seem to trust the dog.
Whether it’s from his calm, animal presence, or just the fact that he knows what it means to suffer, he is a wonderful dog to have around. Sherio conquered his own pain and now helps with others!
