A new hashtag has started to go viral on Twitter and we’re absolutely loving every minute of it. If you haven’t started following #rateaspecies yet, you’re totally missing out.
Zoos, universities, aquariums, and scientists started a hilarious trend where they ‘rate’ different animal species in an Amazon-style fashion. Most animals received five stars, others, however, rated surprisingly low. But, of course, it’s all in good fun.
These hilarious tweets of ‘animal reviews’ are going to make your week.
Did your favorite species receive a review?
Looks like the Oregon Zoo made a good ‘purchase.’
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED
This stylish little unit is amazing. Sound quality A+. No distortion at full volume but bass is a little weak. Top rotates which is a plus. #rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/OYaWOfzosA— Oregon Zoo (@OregonZoo) March 9, 2018
I think this one is a keeper.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Overall very good first impressions. Sturdy built, totally winter-ready and waterproof. Only comes in brown but that’s actually a plus for me. #rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/IK99ODsTPT— Oregon Zoo (@OregonZoo) March 9, 2018
The Monterey Bay Aquarium jokingly knocks off a star for their otter.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ otter be 4 stars but
ok first of all i'm very satisfied much improved over river edition. extremely warm insulation which adds buoyancy. if u like kelp the UrchinCrusher+ is a must on coastal trips. minus one star because it's actually a weasel lol?! #rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/oCGV3aGlZ0— Monterey Bay Aquarium (@MontereyAq) March 9, 2018
This albino alligator received a scathing review.
⭐⭐⭐ NOT AS EXPECTED
Color not as shown (not even CLOSE!!!), supposed to be predator but just sits on heated rock all day and let turtles walk all over him (if ambush predators are so different you should tell people) also missing one toe???#rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/5EAdkDN5D4— California Academy of Sciences (@calacademy) March 9, 2018
But, of course, Twitter wasn’t a fan at all – so, they later upgraded the score.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ UPDATE 3/9/18: ACTUALLY THE BEST

The delivery package must have over-heated.

This is definitely not a sloth.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ MISLABELED
Warning. Not as labeled. This is a straight up bear. Not a sloth. Not a sloth/bear hybrid. Very good quality bear, as long as you know what you're getting into. #rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/87xoTTz9pU— Woodland Park Zoo (@woodlandparkzoo) March 9, 2018
We have another satisfied customer here!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I WAS A DOUBTER
I was skeptical but this really works! You can't just put any kind of kangaroo in a tree. You need to make sure you get the right kind. Look for labels like "Matschie's" or "Goodfellow's" to know it's the real deal.

No headphone jack? I think I’ll have to reconsider.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A TOUR DE FORCE
Simply superlative. Disruptive design. Inspired mechanical engineering. Invented its own niche with seamless software/hardware integration. Absolute head-turner and conversation starter. Sorry, no headphone jack: the future is here. #rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/f6g2QINpgw— Monterey Bay Aquarium (@MontereyAq) March 9, 2018
The elusive cat/snake.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ CAT/SNAKE HYBRID
Extremely musky. 5/6 ends sharp and pointy. Handles like a furry noodle. But fantastic for taking care of unwanted prairie dogs along your property.#rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/I7euo0S3GJ— 🐯 🆃🆈🅶🅴🆁 (@TygerWDR) March 9, 2018
It’s really hard to pick a favorite tweet when they’re all this good.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ VERY HAPPY
Not to be confused with a smiling leaf. Very bouncy and keeps cricket population under control. Offers eye antennas for improved smile signal. #rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/qz4frTnoqL— Josh's Frogs (@JoshsFrogs) March 9, 2018
This little guy is great for camping trips.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ GREAT VALUE
LOVE these. Must-have on all outdoor adventures. Keeps bugs off even when wet. Cordless.#rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/aGJ7GsMlhj— Oregon Zoo (@OregonZoo) March 9, 2018
No need for a lawnmower when you can have one of these.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ PROS & CONS
Dwarf model provides rapid clearing of foliage, weeds, and unwanted shrubbery in a compact design. Exceptionally adorable, but also will devour clothing and paper if left unattended. Occasionally hard-headed but fun to have around.#rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/SCZIPCdcDA— Los Angeles Zoo (@LAZoo) March 9, 2018
It is a bit too cute.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
PROS: High-quality squeak system, thrives in rocky situations, hay for days.
CONS: Maybe TOO cute. Potential pun hazard. #pikaboo #rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/jTFFGImVhO— Yosemite Conservancy (@YoseConservancy) March 9, 2018
Yes, the projectile vomiting could be an issue.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Pleasantly surprised. Thought I had ordered a Roomba, but this did an excellent job of cleaning up my ecosystem. Only downside is the projectile vomiting. Overall 5 stars, would drunkenly purchase again. #rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/5fDfHiaWNq

Classic online ordering mix-up.
⭐️NOT WHAT I ORDERED
I ordered a duck, otter, and beaver bundle apparently there was some kind of freak accident in shipping or something. Contacted shipper, they claim no error. Bad seller. NEVER BUYING AGAIN!#rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/e13u4K657F— 🐯 🆃🆈🅶🅴🆁 (@TygerWDR) March 9, 2018
What he lacks in tail, he makes up for with camouflage.
⭐️⭐️ TAIL TOO SHORT
Wanted a mountain lion but they were too hard to come by, settled with this smaller feline but got short changed on the tail! Camouflage was super effective though #rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/JXgk72ga7k— Cuyamaca Rancho SP (@CuyamacaRancho) March 15, 2018
We appreciate their honesty.
[Wombat] – 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tough all-terrain model, very solidly built with top of the range excavation tools. Goes much faster than expected. We'd have given it 5 stars but minus 1 due to pouch being installed upside-down. #rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/WQMyyEEiSX— Wildlife Victoria (@wildlife_vic) March 16, 2018
The farting could pose an issue.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder
Big but cute. Looks kind of like a baked potato with a beaver tail. Consumes 10% of body weight in vegetation every day. Manatees are a gas – literally. Farts a lot. #rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/9ANcsZwVIs— Dolphin Research Ctr (@DolphinResearch) March 15, 2018
I’m not sure how HR will feel about the cat-calling.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent alarm system
Can be heard through entire building. Also works as great mood booster; catcalls whenever you walk past. #rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/25GuHyKibZ— Emerald Coast Science Center (@ECScienceCenter) March 20, 2018
Who doesn’t love a good BOGO deal?
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Cuter than advertised, purrs perfectly, sticks to any surface, and came with a spare. #rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/uw4icqlkTj— Wildlife in Need (@WildlifeInNeed1) March 13, 2018
No aquarium is complete without it!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ PRAYING THEY KEEP MAKING THESE
As seen on @Oatmeal. Full set is the ultimate seafood multi-tool: tenderizes, slices and serves in milliseconds! Comes in all colors plus some you can’t see.#rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/vm2YhrBihR— Monterey Bay Aquarium (@MontereyAq) March 9, 2018
Sounds confusing, but pretty awesome. This rating deserves an upgrade.
⭐️⭐️ 2/5 stars only. The description stated it was a mammal. Upon arrival this echidna laid an egg. A baby hatched out, that I later found out is called a puggle. I swear if I wanted more Harry Potter Fantastic Beasts I would by another book!#rateaspecies pic.twitter.com/DHrU3gZvzx
