When things go wrong, having a neighbor who is willing to help is sometimes all you can ask for.
The art of being a good neighbor isn’t something that many of us are well versed in nowadays, but for one family in Tennessee, it seems like they learned the ways when the time called for it!
After a fire broke out in Clarksville, Tennessee, two neighbors came together to save lives.
Trey Boling and Alex Wilkinson were hanging out on the street when they realized something was going on.
The neighbors were walking down Superior Drive when they heard frantic barking happening from down the road.
When they went to investigate, they realized that the situation was dire.
Boling and Wilkinson saw a home with fire pouring from the windows with barking coming from inside.
The home was clearly on fire, and there were dogs trapped within. In situations like this, it’s hard to decide what to do!
Risking your life for a dog may be noble, but is it the best idea? Well, the two young men didn’t think long.
Without much thought to themselves, they decided to help no matter the cost.
“I’ll do the same thing I want other people to do for me,” Boling told News Channel 5. “If my house is burning down, God forbid, and I have dogs in the house, I want Alex kicking in my door, I want my dogs out of there.”
With moments to spare, the two boys knocked out the window and were able to rescue the trapped dogs.
While the dogs were important, the two neighbors were also concerned if there were any humans inside.
Taking a big pipe, they smashed a window and lept into the dangerous building. Despite fire pouring from the home, they did a check to make sure nobody was trapped or injured.
Incredibly, they were able to do all of this, PLUS rescue the dogs!
After getting the dogs, they unlocked the door from the inside and let them out.
Once the dogs were released, they went room to room to ensure they didn’t miss anybody in the home.
Incredibly, the only injury that the boys faced was a single cut hand resulting from the smashed window.
Finally, the firefighters got there and were able to get control of the fire. Even still, there doesn’t seem to be a reason for the fire, and an answer may never come.
The homeowners are thankful that their dogs were rescued, but nearly all of their possessions burned with the house.
In another act of neighborly kindness, everyone on the street pitched together to make sure that the family was taken care of!
Currently, a GoFundMe has been posted, and over $7,000 has been raised out of their $10,000 goal.
“We were lucky enough that our neighbor, a 16 year old hero, broke into the burning home to save our 2 dogs and check each and every room in case one of us was still in there. We are in the process of finding a new home in the middle of this traumatic experience and starting all over again, and we would greatly appreciate any help we can get.”
If it weren’t for those two boys, the family would have lost more than just their possessions!
