People often bring home trinkets and finds from their shopping expeditions when they go on vacation.

Sometimes people will even leave extra room in their suitcase to make sure they have enough space to take things home with them.

But most people don’t bring dogs back from vacation with them.

You can’t fit a dog in your suitcase!

But Sara probably isn’t like “most” people. She tried to adopt a dog when she went to Mexico.

She was instantly enamored when she first met the golden-haired stray, she named Rosalita.

“My best friend and I took a trip to Mexico a few weeks ago,” Sara, who goes by squizzle1 on TikTok, said in a video. “I met this stray dog and fell in love.”

She wanted to give the medium-sized dog a forever home so badly that she even took a return flight to try and find her and bring her back home.

Sara captured the moment when she finally found Rosalito on video.

She and her friend were driving in a car when they spotted something moving in the greenery on the side of the road.

That’s when Rosalita appeared.

She came running when Sara called out to her.

To say that Sara was overjoyed is an understatement.

The same could be said for Rosalita.

She was rolling around on the floor and really happy to get some pets.

But Sara did run into a problem once she found Rosalita.

“Unfortunately, it’s been such a struggle trying to get her home,” Sara wrote. “We took her straight to the vet and she’s healthy! However, it’s too hot for her to fly in cargo back to the U.S.”

So, how was she going to get Rosalita back home to the U.S.?

She doesn’t exactly know yet.

“She is currently in someone else’s care until I can figure out a way to get her home as soon as possible,” Sara explained on TikTok.

Sara has plans to go back to Mexico for Rosalita, and she’ll then fly with the pup to the United States. She’s still working out the exact details of how to get Rosalita to the United States. Still, the important thing is Rosalita is safe and will soon be in her forever home.

According to Pet’s That Travel, you must first go to a vet to get a certificate stating that your dog is healthy and won’t pose a risk to other dogs in the U.S. Your dog can forgo rabies vaccination if they have lived in Mexico for over six months or since birth.

You’ll need a written or oral declaration of this. Next, you’ll have to confirm whether the airline will allow your dog to fly in the cabin or cargo area. Then you’ll have to prepare your dog’s US pet passport to qualify for travel.

Once all that is done, you should be good to go. However, certain airlines don’t allow pets to fly during the summer or winter months when temperatures can be too dangerous for animals to fly. In that case, you’ll need to arrange ground travel back to the U.S. So, prepare for a nice road trip or seek help from a pet transporter.
