A mom from Marysville, Pennsylvania had an unforgettable experience recently, and her story is going viral. It all took place while at home one morning, just in her front yard.

Angela Buck was on her way to let her two dogs outside when something caught her eye. Sitting on her driveway was a gorgeous red cardinal.

Buck didn’t want her dogs to bother the tiny creature, so she decided to approach. However, it didn’t fly away as she expected.

In a Facebook post, the mom wrote:

“I thought ‘I better shoo it away before Luna and Geno run out there’ so I walked out and had no luck getting him to fly away.
So I thought ‘do I pick him up and move him?'”

One might think a bird in the wild wouldn’t allow a human to get too close – but in this case, the cardinal didn’t try and flee.

Buck was curious if perhaps the bird was injured. So, she reached out to pick him up from the driveway and was stunned when he stayed in her hand. The mom captured incredible footage of it all.

She later explained:

“He didn’t seem hurt, he was moving his head and repositioning himself on my hand. He was literally sitting there and wouldn’t fly away.”

While Buck waited for a bird rescue facility to open, she “hung out” with her new animal friend. She even gave him the name “Clifford.”

In the footage, the cardinal can be seen sitting peacefully in her hand. Interestingly, some people believe that if you spot a red cardinal, it’s a spiritual sign from a loved one who’s passed. They can also symbolize loyalty and love, According to Caring Cardinals.

An hour later, Buck made a call and told the rescuer on the other end about what happened, and about the cardinal’s behavior. The woman explained to her that it sounded like the bird had a concussion, likely because he “flew into something” or was “hit by a car.”

Luckily, the rescuer had an idea to help.

“She suggested I put him in a dark box in a quiet place for a couple of hours to let him rest. She said to then take him back outside and try to help him fly away.”

Buck followed the woman’s instructions and kept Clifford in a dark, quiet box for a couple of hours.

When she opened the box, the cardinal popped right out and sat on the box’s edge. While he seemed more lively – instead of flying away, Buck was able to once again take Clifford in her hand.

The mom then carried the beautiful bird outside onto the driveway.

After several moments of staying perched on Buck’s finger, he finally took off. She watched as Clifford flew away and landed in one of her trees.
