We are surely familiar with how to take care of dogs, cats, and other animals that are popular. We know how to maintain them.

But it’s not the same for other animals.

Just like donkeys. We don’t always meet someone who takes care of donkeys so most of us have probably no idea how to maintain them.

According to Farm Animal sites, donkeys are “naturally easy-going and kind tempered”. But that doesn’t mean that they won’t become violent when they have been abused.

There are many things to do to maintain donkeys.

Aside from feeding them, they also have to be groomed. And just like us, they need foot care too.

They are like horses and their hooves have to be trimmed.

A video of a woman has recently gone viral because of her content about donkeys.

She recorded a farmer who was trimming a donkey’s hooves.

“This video was recorded to record the medical procedures of animals. The purpose of this channel is to raise awareness of these situations,” she wrote in her post.

In the clip, you would notice that the donkey had overgrown feet.

The farmer had to remove the “bad” hoof and the yellowish thing on it.

They also revealed that the trimmed parts have an unpleasant smell. Apparently, the farmer didn’t cut the hoof too short.

The guy probably knew which parts are the ones to be trimmed and kept.

It’s also clear that it’s quite hard to remove some parts from the donkey’s hooves. And apart from the heel part, the sole of the hoof needs some trimming, too.

The donkey was behaving during the procedure.

Although the procedure looks painful and there was a time where it looks like the donkey didn’t like to give his hoof to the man, the donkey would probably have reacted if it really was painful while its hoof was being cut.

Nevertheless, according to The Donkey Sanctuary, trimming the donkeys’ hooves also has post-treatment. Sugardine, which can be “made by combining povidone-iodine and granulated sugar” is needed to help the hoof to dry and harden.

For the whole procedure, you can visit this site.

Lots of people actually reacted to this viral video with over 1.8 million views.

Some comments are not really positive as they find it kind of brutal. But there were also some who appreciated how informative it is.

“Great information I learned how to trim hoofs on a donkey,” one commenter wrote.

There’s also someone who expressed appreciation to the farmers for taking care of the donkeys.

“Good job guys. I’m glad you’re looking out for the donkey.”

Another commenter said, “gave such a good satisfaction to watch the man treat the hooves so skillfully.”

Hopefully, just like these people, you’ve also learned something from it.
