Life is a funny thing. You can be going about your daily business when out of nowhere, something unexpected happens. Sometimes, those situations are funny and other times, frightening. One woman went through an experience she’ll never forget.
Alligators
Alligators aren’t something to mess around with. Although you know they’re potentially dangerous, you might not realize just how fast they are. So, if you ever come across one, run the other direction as quickly as possible.
Mary Wischhusen’s story
Mary is a 77-year-old woman who owns a house in Clearwater, Florida, known for having a lot of alligators. While most live in water away from residential areas, on occasion, they’ll wander off. People have reported finding gators in their driveway or in their swimming pool.
A rude awakening
At 3:00 a.m., Mary was sound asleep. As an elderly person, she takes the necessary precautions to ensure her safety. But on that morning, she was startled awake by a loud crashing sound.
What was that?
At first, she wasn’t sure where the noise came from. But then she figured it out. Whatever it was had come from her kitchen. With a flashlight in hand, she carefully inched her way toward that room to investigate.
The shock of a lifetime
Mary probably thought an intruder had broken into her home. And she was right. But the intruder wasn’t a human but rather, an alligator.
No ordinary creature
Instead of being a small alligator, this thing was a whopping 11-feet long. And there it was, inside her kitchen. Mary explained that as soon as the gator saw her, it acted as though this was its house…not hers.
Calling for help
There was no way that Mary was going anywhere near that thing. She knew she needed help and fast. So, she dialed 911. When help arrived, it included officers from the Clearwater Police Department and a trapper.
Point of entry
They were shocked at what they saw. It didn’t take long for them to determine how the creature got inside. It just so happened that some of Mary’s kitchen windows were low to the ground, making access into her home easy.
Extracting the alligator
Even a small gator has a tremendous amount of strength so you can imagine how hard an alligator of this size would fight. The professional trapper had an idea. He’d simply pull this beast out the same window it used to enter Mary’s home.
Stalking the neighborhood
Come to find out, a woman by the name of Patricia Pecora had spotted the alligator before its break-in. While delivering newspapers early in the morning, she saw it trying to get into the sewer. But without any luck, it headed straight for Mary’s house or more accurately, the large community swimming pool.
No serious damage
Fortunately, Mary, the police officers, the trapper, and even the alligator were all okay after the ordeal. Once they removed it, Mary went to inspect her kitchen. That’s when she noticed a broken planter and several shattered wine bottles on the floor.
