Cat lovers, prepare your tissues.

The devastating wildfires in Northern California left many with absolutely nothing. This was the case for the Ringenberger family, who had to evacuate their home in Napa due to the approaching fire.

Laura Ringenberger, cat-mom of Kitty Kitty Star, couldn’t find her cat anywhere during the evacuation. She had gone out that day and would not return despite Laura calling her name. After searching the entire neighborhood, it was time for Laura to evacuate, and with tears in her eyes, she departed her what was soon to be a pile of rubble.

“I called for her for about 20 minutes but couldn’t find her. I worried that we would never see her again,” Laura told Love Meow.

It took her family a while to get back to their house after the evacuation since all the roads had been closed.

The police eventually escorted some people back so that they could grab some of their belongings. But the only thing that really mattered to Laura was her kitty. Unfortunately, the fires were very strong, and Laura quickly lost all hope of ever seeing her cat again.

As soon as she got back to Soda Canyon Road, the street she lived on, Laura began another search party for Kitty Kitty Star. When she arrived on site, her heart sank and tears rolled down her cheeks as she saw what was left of her home and neighborhood. Her desperation became evident; she would never see her beloved kitty again.

But suddenly, a miracle happened.

As she was wiping down the tears from her cheeks, she heard a very familiar meow from afar. Could it be Kitty Kitty Star? Laura got out from the rubble that used to be her home and started calling her cat’s name. After a while, the cat responded back! Laura could not contain her excitement.

Laura went towards the direction of the sound, and suddenly a tiny face poked out the rubble; Kitty Kitty Star was alive!

“She came out about 20 minutes after we got there. I called for her for a while. Eventually I heard her off in the distance, crying. It was really surreal. The fact that she was OK, and she was right there. It was a crazy moment.”

She made her way toward the cat and took it in her arms. The cat, who was enjoying the neck scratches and well-needed attention, seemed to have missed its owner, as well.

Laura said that she would have felt guilty for the rest of her life had she not found her beloved cat.

Losing her house was already terrible enough; she would have been devastated had she also lost her kitty. Despite having lost everything, Laura is grateful that she, her family, and her cat are safe.

The Ringenberger family, who is now accepting donations to recover from the wildfire, decided to leave Kitty Kitty Star at a temporary shelter while the family rebuilds their home. From now on, Laura will hold on tightly to Kitty Kitty Star, and she is absolutely determined to never lose her cat again.
