This is a heartwarming tale of a little girl and a random dog which shows how animals can mend even the most terrible heartbreaks.
Our animal friends transform into one of our best sources of solace during times of loss and suffering. Despite the fact that they’re incomprehensible, just being around them is enough to keep us positive and in a good mood no matter what is going on in our lives.
For 6-year-old Raelynn Nast, a Labrador called Blue did precisely that.
Raelynn has always been a daddy’s girl, so she was heartbroken when her father, John David “Davey” Nast, Jr., passed away from colon cancer on April 14 at the age of just 41.
“It was a cry that was pure heartbreak,” Lacey Nast, the little girl’s mom, recounted of that very moment Raelynn found out that her dad has passed. Everybody finds losing a parent traumatic, but a young child finds it tougher.
Raelynn nonetheless decided to act bravely in spite of the situation.
The young girl offered to assist in greeting mourners as they arrived at the McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood, Arkansas, where her father was laid to rest.
She saw Emily Beineman at that moment jogging with her dog Blue.
“May I pet your puppy?” Raelynn blurted out to Emily.
“Of course,” Emily responded. “As long as your parents don’t mind!”
In response, Raelynn gave a timid grin and said, “Oh, my parents aren’t out here. My mom’s inside and my daddy died. We are at his funeral.”
Before Emily had a chance to speak, Blue approached Raelynn and took a seat in front of her.
The child hugged the dog’s neck with her arms and wouldn’t just let go. The next thing they knew, they were already surrounded by Raelynn’s friends and relatives.
Except for Raelynn’s, there wasn’t a dry eye in sight when Emily turned to glance around.
The girl was grinning broadly, and Blue is to blame for that.
After immediately wiping away her tears of sadness, Emily sat down next to Raelynn. After a brief period of conversation, the girl abruptly sprang up and exclaimed, “I want you to meet my daddy! Would you please come meet him?”
Emily had just finished a three-mile run, and she was in no way attired for the situation. She realized, though, that this was the girl’s final opportunity to meet anybody and present them to her dad.
So she went with her to the funeral home.
Lacey claims that her kid has always been “very proud” of her father and has wanted him to meet everyone. It seemed natural that she would want to follow suit even during his wake.
Emily described their interaction in a Facebook post: “(Raelynn) showed me the beautiful bouquet of flowers that surrounded his casket and told me how pretty she thought everything looked.”
“She then asked me if me and Blue would stay for a few more minutes. She wanted to pet Blue a little more. So we did,” she recalled.
Despite the most unlikely of circumstances, a new relationship was established.
“I think God led you and Blue over here today for a reason. Blue’s love and gentleness that she has shown her have touched our hearts,” Raelyn’s aunt and uncle whispered to the jogger.
Raelynn received the comfort she needed at the moment thanks to Blue, according to Emily. Her dog was often described as a “gentle giant” who could tell when someone was depressed or angry.
She added, “(Blue) has this overwhelming calmness about her that is indescribable.”
Raelynn appreciates Emily’s assistance in making her feel better that day.
“She helped me feel better by her kindness,” the adorable girl shared.
Recently, Raelynn and Emily reconnected and decided to remain friends. In fact, Lacey has scheduled a second playdate for Blue and her daughter.
