We all like to think that when the opportunity presents itself, we will do the right thing. The hard thing about doing the right thing, though, is that it’s usually tough! Thankfully, we all get the opportunity to try again more times than not. For one woman, an encounter with a neglected dog resulted in the experience of a lifetime.
Ralph the dog had been chained up in a backyard for a decade.
The sweet boy had been chained up outside his home for over ten years and didn’t have anything in the way of joy in his life. Sleeping outside on the hard ground was just the beginning of his troubles. Dogs need to be fed well in order to keep healthy. Ralph had been fed table scraps for all of his life and was just given whatever was leftover after each meal from the family. Sleeping on the hard ground and eating old food scraps, Ralph wasn’t a healthy or happy dog.
Thankfully, Ralph had a friend who was going to help him.
While walking one day, a woman noticed Ralph chained up on the ground. After a few times of seeing him sitting on the ground and looking abandoned, she decided to go check on him. When she walked up, her heart was broken. She saw what his diet consisted of and that he had been chained up for years on the ground.
Deciding to take matters into her own hands, she started to care for a dog that wasn’t even hers.
Each day she would bring little toys when she would come to check up on him. Even more than that, she asked the family if she was able to take him on a few walks and they agreed! She brought a thick blanket for him to sleep on and would give him baths when he needed it. After years of being chained up, Ralph was finally free to stretch his legs in a way he never had before.
The woman poured on her love onto the little dog and showed him the love that he didn’t have from the family that was supposed to be protecting him.
Through all the gifts, walks, and time spent together, the two formed a little bond. One day when the woman came to visit Ralph, she noticed he seemed a little different. Looking closely, she realized he was in lots of pain. He needed professional care immediately. Going to the family, she asked if she was allowed to take Ralph home. After a series of events, she was granted the request! Ralph was finally able to the care and love he needed.
Ralph is now living as a foster pet with his new friend at their home.
Living with other animals and foster pets, Ralph is living his best life. He is getting all the love and attention that a sweet dog like him needs. Having never developed social skills, he now has a whole new world of learning ahead of him.
Ralph still needs a forever home with a family who is ready for a ton of snuggles and love.
