Saving an animal from harm or rescuing them from difficult situations has shown that humans do care for these creatures. The innate need to help and reach out to them can be seen throughout the centuries. Humans even create groups dedicated to giving them a better life and home.

One recent encounter with an injured dog brought many to tears as her savior recounts the details.

Andrea Athie was driving on a road in Cuidad Victoria, Mexico when the car in front of her hit a dog and drove off without checking the animal. Athie was shocked at the action, but she quickly put her attention on the poor animal. Quickly, she stopped her car, got out, and calmed the animal.

The poor dog was injured.

“Seeing the situation, I stopped and went to help him, without knowing that it was a coyote.” Athie said in an interview with Mirror.

Athie’s heart broke at the pain and helplessness of the animal. She immediately called her friends who can help her lift the dog. He was too heavy for her. Thankfully, her friends immediately responded and went to their aid.

They drove the injured dog to the nearest vet.

During the drive, the helpless dog cuddled up to Athie showing her its thanks and gratitude. The poor animal was in paid, but he was sweet enough to thank her rescuers.

Upon arrival, they were immediately whisked to the emergency room to get it treated. While treating the injuries, they were informed that it was not a dog but a coyote.

Coyotes are known for attacking humans, but they rarely attack when unprovoked.

Despite their dangerous and fearsome personality, this coyote did not attack Athie. He must have known that Athie was there to help. The short time they were together allowed Athie to create a bond with the coyote.

“He was never aggressive. He let himself be caressed but we all know that it is a wild animal and he couldn’t live with us.” she continued.

Hence, she called him Pancho.

Pancho was a sweet coyote. Sadly, he sustained two injuries to his cervicals which made it difficult for him to respond to treatments.

“Every procedure that was performed on Pancho was through a veterinarian and professionally done,” Athie said.

They tried their best for Pancho to live.

“Unfortunately, Pancho could no longer continue fighting with us. Pancho simply did not respond to treatment.” Athie continued “Everything was done humanly possible. In that last moment, I looked at him and wanted him to have the best possible quality of life and not suffer.”

Pancho may not have lived, but he taught Athie an important lesson.

“Pancho came here to show us how to help those who need it, with small acts we can change many things and Pancho showed us that.” Athie said.

“Right now this is what we need as people – to help each other, to do well without looking at who.”

Truly there are still thousands of people and animals that need help. We hope that this touches everyone by helping those in need out of the goodness of their heart.
