The day when it was un-bear-ably hot in Fort Valley, Virginia, Regina Keller received a special visitor in her backyard. Temperatures soared to a scorching 97 degrees and even though there was a steady breeze blowing, it was H-O-T.
Regina was out watering her thirsty flowers when she glanced up in time to see a huge male bear lumber into her yard. The sight of the mammoth creature wasn’t completely shocking, since her home backs up to the George Washington National Forest.
Whole herds of critters routinely wander into her yard. She regularly sees the likes of deer, foxes, squirrels and more.
She loves snapping photos of the creatures she glimpses. This time, everyone was thrilled that she caught this big black bear on video.
That’s because his antics were simply adorable, especially for such a big fella.
“This was the biggest one I’ve seen this year.”
As the bear strolled around the yard, it dawned on Regina that she actually knew this bear. He had popped into her yard a couple of years ago.
She watched the bear as it made itself right at home. It found a kiddie pool used by her grandchildren and walked right up to it.
If she thought he was going to slurp out of it, she was wrong. What he did next stunned her!
“He wandered around the backyard… and went over by the pool and dipped his big paw in the water… and then climbed right in and laid down. He seemed so content and refreshed.”
“It was neat to see and neat that I had my camera with me to capture it.”
Even funnier was her final observation she shared on Facebook.
“We definitely need a bigger pool.”
Facebook users raved over Regina’s photos and videos of the bear.
“I love this one. Wonder if that WAS a round pool?! He does look peaceful.”
“It’s very hot, I’m sure the bear appreciated the water. So cute.”
“Wow, that is adorable. He was hot.”
“Soooo sweet. We aren’t the only ones looking to nap comfortably on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Smarter than your average bear.”
Most people know that black bears can get to hustling when needed. Black bears can move at speeds of 25 to 30 miles per hour.
But they’re also proficient swimmers. They have no problem swimming across rivers, lakes or ponds.
In fact, the North American black bear loves to swim and will go fishing while hanging out in the water. Watch this bear lounge in the backyard kiddie pool for a quick nap. He may be ferocious but right now, he’s too cute!
