Dogs usually wag their tail when feeling excited or happy. They also love to cuddle and snuggle with their favorite humans.

However, when their mom or dad goes away, they whine like babies but celebrate like they hit the lottery when they come back.

We can’t blame them, these are their common traits. They’re simply born playful with unceasing energy to spare the entire day.

The animal featured in this story also displays the same behavior, however, its species is miles away from a doggo.

Introducing, Walter! He is an adorable donkey with a friendly personality who just wants to be a home companion too!

Growing up, he learned dog ways and started to behave like one. We can’t blame Walter, he lives with his dog siblings, three German Shepherd at that. Funny because once you get to see them together, they only differ physically but they all act like one – all dogs, not a single donkey.

Kelly and Brad Blake are Walter’s human parents and their beautiful story started over 2 years ago.

It was July 5, 2019, when Kelly and Brad brought Walter into their home in Oatman, Arizona. As it turned out, his story was a little tragic and he was just a little baby donkey back then.

“We have wild burros that roam the town,” Brad Blake told The Dodo. “Walter’s mama rejected him because she was too young. The Bureau of Land Management and town locals tried for 10 hours to get Walter’s mama to take to him. Nothing was working, so we were called and asked if we would like to adopt him. Of course, we said yes!”

The Blakes immediately fell in love with him. I mean, who wouldn’t? Walter is truly sweet and it’s like he really wants human attention.

For a donkey, being around dogs wasn’t easy but his positive attitude helped him to adapt.

If we, humans, are sometimes having a hard time adjusting to a “new normal”, what more for a donkey like Walter? Fortunately, Kelly and Brad were there to support and guide him through the entire process.

Sooner than they thought, Walter started to fit in and they became a bigger and happier family. His new family established a special bond with him, especially his human dad, Brad.

Walter’s dog siblings also accepted him like he’s also one of their kind.

It simply shows the kind of fur parents Kelly and Brad are. Apart from the donkey’s human parents, his furry siblings also took part in taking care of the newest member of the family.

“We have three German shepherds and they all took to baby Walter from day one,” Brad said. “They have helped us raise him and teach him house manners.”

Walter’s dog side started to show up little by little. He learned to watch on the couch with his dad and his German Shepherd siblings. And whenever Brad comes home from work, he will wag his tail non-stop, ecstatically hop on Brad, and cuddle with him.

It’s like Walter feels more like a dog whenever Brad is around.

“Walter acts as though he is a dog,” he said. “He wags his tail and gets excited when we come home. He hops and brushes his body against me to love on him. He even lays on the couch next to me for naps.”

“Every night we all go on our walk into the desert for exercise and Walter runs around with our shepherds as though he is one of the pack,” Brad added.

Walter is doing a lot more than just being a member of the Blake family.

This adorable donkey works with a number of charities. He is also volunteering as an emotional support donkey for people who are going through something. In fact, his followers are always up-to-date with whatever he is up to through his social media account.

“We never imagined how much Walter would change our lives for the better,” Brad concluded.

He is one sweet four-legged munchkin to the Blakes and to their little community.
