Wild animals sometimes have unfortunate accidents, and sometimes, people are there to witness it. Just like this particular leopard that was recently reported that it fell in a well in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh.

The leopard desperately tries to keep his head up in the water after he fell in a deep well.

The leopard found it impossible to claw himself up on the rocks and he was completely stuck, as there is no possible way out for him. After several hours of struggling in the water, the leopard finally gave in and rested in the tight corner he found. As the big cat tried to catch his breath, the locals slowly gathered around the well to assess the situation.

The locals worked together with forest officials to save the leopard.

The people spotted the exhausted leopard and started calling more people to help them save it. The officials from the Indian Forest Service also rushed to the scene to lend their hands to the locals.

After some time brainstorming, one thought of a creative idea to fish the leopard out of the water by using a rope ladder and a cot, which the locals called a khatiya. The people fastened both the ends of the two ladder ropes on the khatiya and lowered it towards the well.

After a few hours of struggling to escape the well, the leopard has not regained its energy yet as it has continued resting on the same corner. He stayed in a spot where he could rest his head to regain his energy.

The rescuers tied a stick on the rope so that they could poke the sleeping leopard. It took them quite some time to wake the leopard and convince it to climb the makeshift elevator. The moment the leopard was on the cot, the people from either side of the well gently held the ropes up to lift the leopard out of the well. They had to be extra careful too, so as not to rock the khatiya too much.

The rescue operation finally finished after five hours.

The leopard clung to the cot until he found an opportunity to climb the nearby rocks back to the surface. The sight of the leopard finally touching the solid ground was both satisfying and heart-melting.

The officials then tailed the leopard for a while just to check if it went back to the forest safely. After five long hours, both the locals and forest officials were finally able to celebrate, as they were successful in their rescue operation. Their creative ideas and fruitful efforts were praiseworthy.

The video of the rescue instantly went viral on the internet.

The people also left their praises from the rescuers’ efforts for saving the leopard. The same story was then featured on The Dodo’s Facebook page.
