The storm made the ground so wet and muddy that the baby elephant, who is about one years old, fell through the concrete drain and became stuck.

The park rangers were afraid that the mother would cry out for help, causing a stampede of a herd of about 30 elephants.

They knew there was no way to get the baby out while the mother was still awake because the mother wouldn’t allow it. She would not leave her calf’s side or let anyone get near it.

So, they had to tranquilize her. In the process, she hit her head badly and fell into the drain.

Thankfully the mother elephant was lying in such a way that the baby was still able to suckle from her while stuck in the 7ft deep hole.

They had to use a crane to pull mom her out. You could hear the baby elephant screaming as the mother was pulled away.

He kept trying to climb his way out of the hole but kept sliding back down into the muddy pit.

The ordeal was caught on video and is slightly traumatizing to watch listening to the poor little elephant’s screams.

After pulling the mom out, veterinarians rushed to revive her. In order to do so, they had to perform CPR.

But how do you do CPR on an elephant?

Apparently, by jumping up and down on her. Meanwhile, a construction digger was used to make a pathway for the baby to crawl out of the drain hole. Eventually, the baby was able to climb its way out.

The baby immediately rushed to its mother’s side. A few more CPR pumps later and the mother came to.

The vets and park rangers quickly moved away to give the two the space they needed to feel safe.

Eventually, the baby elephant and his mom walked off into the forest to be reunited with their herd. The vet assured everyone that both the baby and his mother were safe and healthy.

She then thanked everyone involved in the three-hour-long rescue of this elephant family.
