A veterinary technician named Bre was walking by some bushes outside of the veterinary practice and noticed a tiny, little kitten wandering around. When she got closer, Bre was completely shocked by the kitten’s condition.
The poor little kitten had a severe infection in both of her eyes, her fur was matted, and it was suspected that someone just dropped her off and abandoned her there.
Bre immediately brought the kitten into the veterinary clinic, and lovingly named her Lemmy. She was in dire need of medical attention, so she was rushed back to get a full examination.
They veterinary staff began by shaving off all of her matted fur and gave her treatment for ringworms. Sadly, they discovered that the infection in one of her eyes was too severe and they were going to have to remove it.
The infection that Lemmy suffered from was preventable, but sadly, due to lack of medical care and attention, the poor girl had to lose her eye.
Even though Lemmy had been through so much, and was in terrible discomfort, the sweet girl still purred and snuggled with the loving people that were rescuing and treating her. It was clear that she was relieved and overjoyed to be somewhere safe.
Bre, who loves fostering cats, decided that she would take Lemmy home. She helped nurse Lemmy back to health and gave her a safe, comfy home to recover in – not only from her physical wounds but her mental wounds as well.
It wasn’t long before Bre fell in love with Lemmy and knew a forever family would too. She was sweet, playful, and had a big personality.
Soon, Lemmy was ready to be adopted and Bre posted about her and received a couple applications. For some reason though, Lemmy was adopted and returned twice, she just couldn’t understand it.
Bre didn’t understand why Lemmy couldn’t find her perfect fit, but soon, a family that had been following her journey contacted Bre. They had started to fall for the unique, one-eyed kitty.
“She was available for adoption in September and I didn’t consider adopting her at first — we already had two cats and weren’t in the market for three — but after she was adopted and returned TWICE, I knew she was meant to be part of our family,” Celine Machefert, Lemmy’s mom, told The Dodo. “We just knew at that point that we had to have her. We have a soft spot for the ‘unwanted’ animals.”
Celine and her family put in an application to adopt Lemmy, and soon – they welcomed her in as an official member.
Lemmy got settled into her new home and quickly bonded with her new brother and sister. It was “home.”
“You’d think she had been there forever,” Celine said. “She was very quick to adjust, and her brother and sister took to her pretty quickly.”
Her new parents wanted to make sure they did everything to keep Celine happy and healthy, so they took her to an ophthalmologist to see if anything could be done about her vision. The sight in her remaining eye wasn’t that great.
Doctors said there isn’t much they could do for Lemmy’s sight, but the sweet girl doesn’t seem to mind one bit.
“She will run into walls sometimes and she can’t play with certain toys that her brother and sister play with, like a laser toy, but she doesn’t know any different,” Celine said. “We do think her brother and sister know there’s something different about her because they go easier on her than they do each other and they will try to help her. She was having a hard time climbing on something once, and they helped nudge her up. It was the sweetest thing I have ever seen.”
Lemmy has a loving forever family that is there to help her whenever she needs it, but the best news of all – she’s happy.
