“[Coronado] sat on the steps of the truck and Ernie sidled right up to him and started licking his face,” she said. This went on for a while. “After quite a few snuggles I tried to get him out to continue our walk, but it definitely took some doing — he wanted to stay in the truck with his new friend!”
Some people believe in love at first sight.
And, apparently, dogs do too.
Ernie took one look at Jason Coronado in his UPS van and fell in love. It took Jason a bit longer to come around but, eventually, he did.

It also started when Ernie was still a shelter dog.
He was being taken for a walk by Cindy Gristani, a volunteer dog walker at the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter.
During their morning walk, Cindy and Ernie happened to pass by a UPS van being driven by Jason. Jason had stopped his truck to take a 10-minute break.

For some reason, Ernie just had to stop and say high to Jason.
And once he did, he was completely smitten by him.
It was as if they had been friends forever.

“He was over the hills excited to see me, so I called him on up [into the cabin],” Jason told The Dodo.
Even Cindy was surprised by how taken Ernie was with Jason.

But soon Jason had to go back to work and Ernie had to go back to the shelter.
A month had passed but Jason just couldn’t get Ernie out of his mind.
As fate would have it, Ernie ended up seeing a post on social media saying that Ernie was still up for adoption and that he had one of the longest stays at the shelter for a dog.

“I was sad to hear he was still there,” said Jason.
Jason thought about adopting Ernie and after discussing it with his family he decided to take a trip to the shelter.
“He is probably my idea of a perfect dog,” Jason told WKBW. “I wanted him to have a good home.”

Jason said he was sad that he didn’t take Ernie home sooner. But now Ernie has a forever home with his best buddy.
Something he knew would happen the moment he laid eyes on Jason. And the shelter employees couldn’t have been more overjoyed to see such a perfect pairing.
“It’s these happy endings this keep us going and doing what we do,” said Cindy.
