Some people believe coincidences to be nothing more than random chance events lining up in a particular way.
However, others ascribe more meaning to these strange and bizarre happenings.
One author, in particular, named Squire Rushnell, refers to these coincidences as “Godwinks.”
He’s actually written numerous books that contain incredible stories of coincidence which leave the reader nothing short of moved and stunned.
When one story, in particular, caught the attention of Rushnell, he knew that he had to share it.
It’s the journey of a dog named Ruby and her incredible Godwink story.
Ruby is an Australian Shepherd mix who was just hours away from being put-down at a dog shelter for being deemed “unadoptable.”
She had gone to live with 5 different families and every single one of them returned Ruby to the shelter because she was too rambunctious.
However, not everyone had given up on Ruby just yet.
A volunteer/trainer at the shelter named Pat tried one last thing to save Ruby’s life.
She contacted the K-9 unit at the Rhode Island State Police to see if they would be willing to take Ruby in and train her.
One of the officers there, named Dan O’Neil, had always dreamed of being a part of the K-9 unit.
There was just one problem, he didn’t have a dog.
When his superior let Dan know that there was a dog that had become available, he jumped on the opportunity to train Ruby.
It wasn’t easygoing at first.
Ruby proved to be very stubborn and tough to train.
However, Officer O’Neil didn’t give up on her.
Eventually, Ruby joined the K-9 unit for the Rhode Island State Police and became an invaluable asset to the team.
During her seven career, Ruby went out on 10 missing-person cases and helped return 3 of those persons alive and well.
One day, the police received a call from a woman whose son had gone missing in the woods.
Ruby and Dan hit the trail and started their search for the missing boy.
After a bit, Ruby caught a scent and ran off down a ravine.
When Dan caught up, he found Ruby licking a boy’s face–he was lying unconscious on the ground.
The boy had severe lacerations on his head and a very light pulse. He was rushed to the hospital where he eventually made a full recovery.
Dan went back to the mother’s house in order to inform her of the good news about finding her son.
She broke down into tears of thankfulness and when she composed herself, asked Dan about a certain dog in the K-9 unit.
She asked,
“Do you know of a dog named Ruby?”
Officer O’Neil was clearly surprised.
He told her that Ruby was his dog and that she was the one who had found the woman’s son.
The woman introduced herself as Pat, the one who had saved Ruby from being put down by getting her involved in the Rhode Island State Police K-9 unit.
The dog whose life that this woman had saved so many years ago, ended up saving her own son’s life in the end.
That, my friends, is a Godwink.
