This dog has had a more challenging life than most humans.

The Yulin Dog Meat Festival has begun! The new laws prohibit dog meat trade yet they are not being enforced and the Yulin Festival is still taking place. Dogs are being tortured and killed in the middle of the streets while onlookers do nothing to stop these terrible humans. It’s time to raise our voices and speak out against Yulin. No dog deserves to die in the hands of a human. It’s time to #ENDYULIN and #STOPDOGMEATTRADE! I am only one of the many dogs that @dalmatianrescue has rescued from China, Korea, and surrounding areas, please see the link in my bio and donate today to help them continue to rescue dogs like me! . . . . Special thanks to @3l_innovations for my pawsome bandana. I’ve been saving it for today!. . . #stopyulinforever #dogprosthetic #stopdogmeattrade #stopyulin #yulinfestival #dogmeat #dogmeattrade #endyulin #slaughterhousesurvivors #spottygang #blessed #rescue #rescuedog #adoptdontshop #handicappedpet #handicappeddog #dalmatian #dalmatiansofinstagram #dalmatiandog #wheelchairpup #wheelchairdog #dogwheelchair #dogsofinstagram #rescuedogsofinstagram #freedom #rescuedog #rescue #adoptdontshop #dogsofinstagram #puppiesofinstagram #instafamous @dalmatianrescue

Some animals suffer some of the worst mistreatment that we could imagine. While most countries view dogs as friends and companions, others do not. In China and South Korea, for example, dogs are sometimes abused and sold in meat markets. Even worse, they believe that the more stress an animal experienced, the better price they can get for it.

This abhorrent act sometimes results in amazing stories.

As with any evil act, good people are always looking for ways to help. The story of one Dalmation shows just how resilient dogs can be and also just how good humans can act.

Emma Roo is a Dalmatian that was rescued from one of these farms.

Emma Roo has had a tougher life than most humans ever will. Born in China, Emma Roo had a small toe defect and was abandoned on the street. Soon after, she was captured by a Chinese slaughterhouse and mistreated.

The things that were done to this sweet girl are hard to read.

When she was taken to the slaughterhouse, they chopped off her front legs, the tips of her ears, and parts of her tail. At the time, Emma was only eight weeks old. Thankfully, that’s not the end of her story.

Emma was rescued and had her entire life changed.

Hi friends! Mom said that so many very kind people have reached out wanting to offer support by sending packages to me. While we are so grateful for everyone’s generosity, mom says we aren’t allowed to give our address out to strangers on the interwebs… something about safety and that 101 Dalmatians movie where the puppies get kidnapped by Cruella De Ville. She also said that I already have too many treats and toys and that I really need to watch my figure… how dare she! However, mom said that she set up an Amazon Wishlist of items that would really help me out for anyone who wants to send me a present without us having to give out where we live. Some of the items listed are pet bandages and creams for my nubbies, liquid bandage and other supplies for when I cut them, some puzzle toys, and some physical therapy equipment. Big thank you to everyone who has messaged asking if they can send me care packages, I really appreciate you all but safety FIRST, right?! Please see link in bio for my wish list!

Rescuers in Beijing snatched her up and knew that she would stand a better chance of being adopted overseas. They reached out to Dalmatian Rescue of South Florida, hoping to find a home. Arriving in the U.S. in January 2020, she just made the cut before animal transport was cut off due to the coronavirus.

Misha Rackcliff saw a picture of the sweet Dalmation and knew she had to meet her.

After seeing her photo online, Misha knew that there was a reason Emma was in the U.S.

“I remember first seeing Emma online – she has the most human-like amber colored eyes. I didn’t even think about the logistics of it. I knew this dog was sent to me for a reason.” – I Heart Dogs

Driving 5 hours to pick Emma up, she was amazed at just how sweet she was.

After such a rough life, Misha was worried that she would be aggressive or cold.

Understandably, Misha went into the relationship thinking that Emma would have some severe personality issues. She had a rough life and needed someone to care for her. Incredibly, her temperament was golden!

“When I met her, I thought she might be cold or not interested in people from the trauma but she came up straight into my arms. By the time we finished our five-hour road trip home, it’s like she knew I was her person and that I was never going to leave her.”

With a path to recovery in sight, Emma started to heal.

There were still moments where Emma needed some extra love. She didn’t trust men, and anything that sounded like a saw (lawnmowers) would send her into a frenzy. Slowly but surely, however, she got better and healthier.

“We’re not the heroes, the dogs are the heroes. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are organizations out there who want to help you to give your dog the best life possible.”
