For animal lovers like me, our natural inclination is to assist a stray dog in whatever manner we can when we come across one. We may take them to an animal shelter to get their microchips checked.

If they are hurt, we transport them to the closest clinic so they may get the necessary medical care.

We try to do the best we can to help.

Just like these two officers from the Los Angeles Police Department. They acted like how any other decent individual would have in the same circumstance.

During their patrol, they stumbled across a homeless puppy walking on the street by himself. The dog was so adorable and tiny that it was hard to just leave it on the streets.

He was helpless.

They began thinking about how they could help the poor pup until a brilliant idea popped up: they decided to do what was best for the dog by adding him to their K-9 squad.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s officers Mercado and Tavera saw the puppy on Hobart Boulevard wandering the streets alone. To save him from being struck by any passing vehicles, they picked him up and placed him in their police car.

They are the little puppy’s heroes.

The cops decided to name the dog after the street where they found him so they gave the adorable dog the name “Hobart” and carried him back to the station. Hobart and his rescuers bonded right away, and Hobart followed them everywhere.

The little dog is seen following Officer Mercado everywhere he went in a video posted by the LAPD Hollywood Station on their social media accounts.

Hobart loved being around them.

And it appears that the two officers felt the same way, as they couldn’t stop talking about their newest friend.

“Newest member of our K-9 unit. Officers Mercado & Tavera found a puppy while on patrol near Hobart Blvd, they took him back to the station and have officially renamed him “Hobart.” Welcome to LAPD, Hobart!” the department posted on their account.

The newest K9 received a wonderful welcome.

The officers didn’t only perform a good deed by helping out the helpless Hobart, but they also found a new companion that will help them protect the city and fill their days with a lot of love and sunshine!

The department’s post garnered a lot of lovely comments. One commenter fondly wrote, ” Please take this moment to share what someone should do if they find a lost dog, not just to keep a dog because it’s cute. This is a great teaching moment—to lead by example.”

Hobart is definitely the most unexpected yet the most welcomed member of the Lost Angeles Police Department. Hobart has been taken off the streets and is now in a place where he is loved and cared for, thanks to these amazing cops!
